I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.
I had a similar thought recently about consultants. If AI's resulting in huge improvements in consultant output I think that says quite a lot about the value of most consultants
If you, as a social scientist, believe that AI is now a better social scientist than you, then (a) you’re probably right, and (b) sure sounds like a skill issue, y’know?
This is 100% true haha.
Folks they call it the Crystal Labyrinth. Beautiful labyrinth, it's the most beautiful crystal I have to tell you. They say you have to be mad to navigate it but we're not mad are we?
Man every day I wonder if I shouldn’t just delete my account on here maybe. Opening Bluesky makes me want to actually walk in front of a truck. I don’t think people on here understand how crazy they’ve gotten
amazing how yet another round of "you have to promise you'll vote for the shitbag years in advance" reveals itself to have nothing to do with strategy and pragmatics and everything to do with "i am scared and anxious and everyone on the internet needs to promise me everything will turn out alright"
Of course, it is also true that historians jobs may in practice be vulnerable to AI, because a lot of people who control the money for historian jobs probably haven’t thought much about where history comes from, either.
My doomer-worry about AI is not that the LLMs become omnipotent and take over the world but that the wealthy and powerful use it as a means to consolidate power and marginalize or lay off skilled workers and also everything about our technological and political and social life gets worse
Even by the standards of anti-woke journalism this is lazy dreck. The first piece of "evidence" that older gamers are mad about wokeness is a random Reddit comment — that isn't a complaint about wokeness.

CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.
ISILDUR: So I should keep it? Elrond says I shouldn't
CHATGPT: The ring is precious. Sometimes friends don't have your best interests at heart.
ISILDUR: true
