If you want more background on how it's a cult, I recommend the latest episode of @dreamingagainstthemachine.com from @adambecker.bsky.social www.dreamingagainstthemachine.com/episode-28-t... (Reposting with the right tag for the right Adam!)

dreamingagainstthemachine.comEpisode 28: The AI Doom Sex Cult (Solo Episode)We have to talk about it, so let's talk about it. Adam lays out exactly where the AI doom narrative is coming from and why you shouldn't take it seriously.

I jumped in with the first response and said, "It's a cult." Everyone laughed, and then I said, "I'm serious. It's actually a cult." and elaborated some on TESCEALists, their shared mythology, and how bananas it all is. >>

I've been investigating my complex, intense feelings about interactions between people opposed to "AI" and everyone else, neutral or boosters. And, I realized I'd felt this way before, when Covid-19 was spreading across the globe and every person's help was needed to keep people around them safe.

I suppose this also extends to the Trump presidential campaigns. Significant outcry about that way leading to madness and ruin, but malefactors and morons kept resisting efforts to turn us away from that cliff. So it's been over a decade of this, really.

(The gas-fueled leaf blowers howling outside my home won't allow me to forget that this is also the shape of our struggle to avert irreversible climate change.)

There are people who are actively and passively accepting that they cause harm to you and regardless of how clearly you articulate that harm, how much evidence you offer, how many individual stories tie that data to real people they will not stop. They just ...won't ...stop. Completely crazymaking.

Good news, Libby users! You can now filter AI out of your next read. 🚫🤖 Open Menu → Settings → Content Controls → AI Contributions Choose “Human only” for each category Make sure “Deep search only” is OFF Drop a 🙌 once your settings are updated!

I usually check out as many games as possible in Next Fest, but the tidal wave of AI trash has beaten me Non-AI indie devs please post your games below and I'll check em out instead Also @steampowered.com PLEASE add an option to filter out AI games in searches. It's killing discoverability #gaming

Replying to @shannonappelcline.bsky.social

We've recently learned that HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette are all using AI on the sly. Contracts are the way to at least give them pause. And don't publish with someone who won't sign an anti-AI contract: you won't like the results.

wired.comBook Publishers Are Quietly Using More AI. Staff Are RevoltingWorkers at three major publishing houses tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech.

Last I'll post about this, but Elon Musk disagrees with me. This means I am onto something, and I feel more valid in my opinion than ever.

Heads up anyone running any publicly-accessible PHP web application, including web interfaces for consumer devices.

nightshade →home, for now@nightshade.technology

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

NVIDIA seems to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery. The argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into is nonsense...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now, or else. GPUs are stacked in warehouses.

This is superb. Especially the implication that many people will simply not understand the message unless it's presented with characters from children's educational television.

In early 2025, I assumed the Trump regime would delete the Department of Justice’s press releases and other statements related to more than 1,000 Jan. 6 cases. So I downloaded them. We’ve now made them available to the public with a search tool. They can’t erase history. jan6memoryproject.org

I think we can all safely ignore* the so-called flying car as just more flim-flam from a guy with a legendary record of such things. However this is a very interesting write-up of the technologies involved to explain why it's bullshit. *Apart from harms and crimes committed in the process, natch

Any Halloween movie from before 9/11 when you could see children trick-or-treating on cold, wet nights full of fall foliage instead of letting them trudge through some bullshit "trunk or treat" in a parking lot while it's 90 degrees outside and cops in layers of tactical gear stand watch.

I really don't think folks who weren't there grasp just how much these generations really were shamed or even prosecuted for stuff that giant companies do all the time now like ffs, websites used to shame people for 𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 images without paying the site that hosted it for their bandwidth!

Disappointing but not surprising. Glad to see they aren't giving up.

Vibe coded programs are extremely dangerous. You have no idea wtf the code is made to do, and neither does the person distributing it. Like sure, it could infect your PC or create backdoors, but also memory leaks, render files unusable, brick it so you can't boot, anything Do not install them

Nash@radiodeadair.com

If you still have the Epic Games Launcher on your system, don't update it and get it the fuck off of your computer. There's no telling what damage it can do or what vibecoded landmines are waiting in it.

I found 3 games on my wishlist. Removed them and set to ignore. Because the "AI disclosure" is sometimes "we didn't use any" I read them all. One dev tried the "we're just a smol studio" defense. Boo-hoo.

Eternal Skies TCG RPG@eternalskies.neocities.org

Here's a pro tip for everyone. Go to SteamDB and log in. Go to this link: steamdb.info/sales/?displ... That's all the games in your wishlist that have an AI disclosure, so feel free to remove them accordingly.

Oh also I checked my owned games while I was at it, and was pleased to not find any with a disclaimer. Though of course I'm sure there are some who are guilty and haven't admitted it.

I hope Ybor City is never remade so much that I don't instantly know exactly where a photo of it was taken, however random. (This is just West of The Castle, on the same block. Spookeasy Lounge/The Catacombs is around the corner in the background--Vertigo, first time I went.)

Hell yeah.

Over the next few years, SDOT and Seattle City Light will install around 200 new curbside EV chargers across Seattle. We're now accepting applications. Get details and apply here: https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2026/10/13/seattle-expands-affordable-electric-vehicle-charging-network/

Anyone have suggestions? I'll even consider pre-slop forks of Calibre if that's all we have to choose from. I'm almost entirely looking for library control and managing physical eReaders, via cable or wifi. Everything else is optional.

IDK who's got the real data, but I will say that I'm surprised anyone assumed the bot activity would be centered on a data center instead of distributed across botnets on stolen compute just about everywhere. No idea why folks would think they'd give that up for a single point of failure.
