A high-turnout election! Bradford got more votes losing than all but 2 winners in Toronto's post-1997 history, and both those cases were incumbents running against relatively weaker challengers. Olivia Chow, of course, won *even more* making her the most vote-getting politician in Canadian history.

CPS states the “investigation into the incident is ongoing” but also shared that the driver “didn't see the victim because it was dark and the victim was in dark clothing.” 🤨 Can investigations be ongoing while also sharing presumptuous info?

The UCP might make Edmonton pay up to $170M to rip out its own bike lanes. I've heard reports that the UCP has been asking for costs of full network removals. City numbers put that at $150-170M This is the same gov't that just spent $130M on a glorified opinion poll.

Will the student submissions mimic the victim blaming approach demonstrated by the adults (wear bright clothing etc.), or will they demonstrate the real action that is needed in is from those in control of the harm? 🤔

Is no one going to ask *how* she plans on enforcing this? The party bylaws don't give her authority. This isn't the APP. Bylaws do matter.

“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.

Speaking of not connecting to major roads, 26 Ave SW also does not connect to Crowchild trail to the east. So it’s more of an inter-neighborhood street to serve the needs of local traffic. Seems like a perfect place for bicycle infrastructure.🤷‍♂️ #yycBike #Calgary

While 26 Ave SW does not provide car connections to major roads, it does provide amazing connection for people bicycle, even today with less than all ages and abilities infrastructure. When 26 Ave SW is improved this fall it will see even more use and that means less cars on the road. 👍

IMO the UCP has been touting antibike legislation coming in Nov for 3 reasons. 1. Create a distraction from other things 2. Fires up their base 3. Nov is a cold month when the “nobody bikes in winter” lands with people on the fence #yycBike and #yegBike get those winter tires on this weekend! 😉

When the City looks at the pathways in the area east of Sarcee and the places where people bicycle, where would they invest to offer safer bicycling infrastructure to lessen the risk of injury/death and provide alternatives to driving to help traffic congestion? Hint: 26 Ave SW #yycBike #Calgary

26 Ave SW doesn’t intersect with Sarcee, so how is it even a connection for bicycling? It’s all thanks to this pedestrian bridge nearby that connects the two areas. The fact that 26 Ave doesn’t connect for cars makes it a perfect for bike infrastructure compared to Bow Tr, 17 Ave or Richmond Rd.

So where do people bicycle in those two areas? According to Strava, the area west of Sarcee uses the straight sections with concentration at cross overs at Bow Trail, 17 Ave, 26 Ave & Richmond. The area east of Sarcee shows a continuation of volume from those crossovers. #yycbike #Calgary

I recently bought a class 1 mid drive ebike and have started to do errands with it. Here are the speed profiles of the same errand route that involves a big hill, one by ebike the other acoustic bike. The average speed is 66% faster by ebike. The moving time was almost half. Amazing! #yycBike

Technically it’s illegal to operate power wheelchairs and four wheeled mobility devices on cycle tracks in Alberta. But the relatively smoother roll cycle tracks offer is often preferred by people who use them. The laws need to change to make it legal. #yycBike #yegBike #Calgary

I did not understand this CD&US sign this morning… the only thing barricaded was the opposite cross walk. And there was nothing happening there either. 🤷‍♂️ #yycBike

Hey #yycbike!! Here is tomorrow’s #coffeeoutsideyyc 7:30am meet up location. Be prepared for colder temp, snow & strong winds out of the N-NW when you head out for the day. It’ll make Alforno Bakery that much more cozy when you get there. 😃👍🏻

This is so sad. I’ve always said to family and friends to never attempt to change a tire on the side of a highway. Drive until you are safely away from high speed cars. Wreck the wheel of the flat tire in the process if needed. Just don’t risk your life.

cbc.caMan killed while changing tire on Deerfoot Trail, police say | CBC NewsA 70-year-old man is dead after being hit by a truck and trailer on Deerfoot Trail on Tuesday afternoon, Calgary police said.

I’ve always found it interesting how the bicycle seat and the resulting pain from its use is such a feared thing for those who first get into bicycling. The pain is real …so the barrier to entry is real as well.

For those unfamiliar to riding a bicycle, I can also appreciate the initial appeal of wider tires and the ride comfort and stability it provides. And with e-power, the extra effort to move the heavier wheels and bigger frame is less of a concern.

Since 2016, the City of Toronto has spent about $27 million to design and install bike lanes. It’ll take an estimated $48 million to rip them up. Here, we crunch some of the numbers for what Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes will cost Toronto’s residents: thewalrus.ca/doug-ford-is-spe...

Renewed AB license today Registry sign says must have health care card, if none then contact Alberta Health. Photos or copy won’t be accepted. At counter, told an affidavit accepted & write your HC number if known. Before affidavit returned, temp license was printed with HC# on it. 🤨

This whole thing is political theatre attempting to fool people the whole control measure is providing some sort of fraud prevention. People will walk away from registries when they read the sign saying you must have a HC card. The extra hoops to jump through just makes life unnecessarily harder.

This is going to be an existential showdown between DS and the separatists. Grab your popcorn!🍿
