Is no one going to ask *how* she plans on enforcing this? The party bylaws don't give her authority. This isn't the APP. Bylaws do matter.

The Breakdown AB@thebreakdownab.bsky.social

Danielle Smith confirmed yesterday that no one who espouses Separatist goals will be allowed in a leadership or representative position within the UCP. Looks like Dani has figured out what her biggest weakness is heading into 2027... #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

I resonate with this.

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Disagree. Same cleavage, different issue. Far right populists vs mainstream conservatives. The latter are abandoning the sinking ship because the party is ungovernable. drjaredwesley.substack.com/p/congratula...

drjaredwesley.substack.comCongratulations, Canada! Alberta, this isn’t over.Federalists can rest easier after Alberta’s referendum result. Pluralists should rest up for a longer struggle against far-right populism.

After the referendum, watch for both factions of Danielle Smith’s coalition to show up en masse to try to assert control of her UCP. But it hits different when the sides aren’t PC and Wildrose — it’s separatist and federalist. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"It’s clear the referendum results are a rejection of the separatist belief that Canada is irreparably broken. Most Albertans view it as fixable and worth repairing." But the fixes remain contentious. My latest: theconversation.com/albertans-so...

theconversation.comAlbertans soundly vote to stay in Canada. Many are asking why they had to vote in the first placeFollowing their resouding referendum loss, Alberta separatists must now choose between fighting within the UCP or through new parties.

Heads up! This is a thread - more like a library/compendium - of my columns, speeches & podcasts about Alberta's referendum questions. I thought it might be useful if I gathered it all in one place, organized by time and topic. #Alberta #notothenine #abpoli #cdnpoli

“A pluralist democracy makes room for competing interests and resolves disputes through common norms and institutions. […] Pluralism does not let one faction claim exclusive ownership of the public will, especially when that faction has repeatedly failed to win an election.”

The UCP wants you to get bogged down on the policy debates around infill. Don't be fooled. Their intrusion into local democracy reveals something far more troubling to folks across the political spectrum. drjaredwesley.substack.com/p/this-isnt-...

In overruling Edmonton's elected council, Municipal Affairs Minister Dan Williams actually said that those who supported the bylaw were "unAlbertan and UnCanadian." The hypocrisy of Danielle Smith complaining about federal overreach at the news conference was next level.

I didn't mince my words. Alberta's anti-immigration referendum questions are racist. They are also a potential disaster for Alberta's economy. Last night, I rose in the Senate to denounce them - and to thank all the thousands of Albertans fighting against them. Please share. #notothenine #cdnpoli

This shift among separatists coincides with their abandonment of all things Danielle Smith. They have something in common with federalists. Everyone should vote No to the Nine.

I am now seeing separatists telling each other to ignore the other 9 questions and focus on Option 2 for question 10. They are arguing that the other 9 questions are a mechanism to work within Canada.

More confirmation and details of the deep ties between Alberta separatists and Trump Republicans. They are part of the same far-right populist movement. And the Americans are deeply involved in promoting disunity in Canada. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

Michigan Republican operatives travelled to Alberta to pitch separatists on 10X Votes, software for identifying and mobilizing conservative voters. That software inspired the Centurion Project, which let users search Albertans’ names and addresses.

Some U.S. figures openly back Alberta’s separation or annexation. The White House says it made no commitments. In short: separatists promise Alberta sovereignty while offering Washington oil and water, and importing Republican campaign tech that exposed nearly 3 million voters’ data.

Alberta separatist leaders met U.S. officials three times. One co-founder says they discussed oil, water and other resources in exchange for help; another leader disputes that account.
