Remember every pearl-clutching journalist and commentator who insisted it was in the public interest to know every single detail of a Cambridge academic's life, even after he resigned his position, because he did some sloppy copy-and-pasting as a post-grad student?

there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood — of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.

what a fucking asshole

"She was wrong about me on the Elections, although she knew I was going to win" What does he think this means? How did she know he was going to win? But knowing that, then why would she be "wrong" about him? What would be the point?

Coupla things: Notable that he attacks Haberman repeatedly but not Swan. They are co-authors with both names on the book. He is well known to be constantly talking to reporters on the phone, and Haberman has been his particular phone pal for decades. This is all 100% bullshit.

Can you imagine being so mired in the nonsense of rightwing BS—and so goddamn stupid—that you call for people to die over [checks notes] reality TV idiot Spencer Pratt coming in third in an LA mayoral election? What D-U-M-[another letter] times we live in.

very noticeable that Trump is doing his exact rally speech in Wisconsin, only sitting. Almost like he's not able to stand for a long period of time right now and the "roundtable" (nobody has spoken other than him!) is a front

Ken Paxton was indicted for scamming his own friends. He convinced them to invest hundreds of thousands in a company while secretly pocketing a commission. Paxton sold out his own friends for a quick buck. What makes you think he won't sell you out in the Senate?

Today, I signed an Executive Order temporarily repealing bedtimes in the City of New York so that kids of all ages can watch our team in the NBA Finals. As Mayor, you’re forced to make many difficult decisions. This was not one of them. Go Knicks.

They put one of yours in the hospital, you put out a statement about how disappointed you are. That’s the centrist way.

An American political journalist is calling POTUS directly to indirectly ask if he wants to launch a nuclear weapon. And then they report that conversation to us as if it is a normal part of their job.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Again, I don’t see how you can read this as anything other than Trump trying to normalize the idea of using nuclear weapons

adam says it much more succintly. the american right will happily impoverish the united states and make it an oversized backwater if it means they can dominate women and minorities and play act as a master class

They’d rather the country be poorer and whiter than rich and diverse. Of course when the pie shrinks, the rich will demand the same amount and will tell you the crumbs you’re left with are because of immigrants or trans people or DEI. bsky.app/profile/apne...

Does this even make sense? Driving down the street I get frequent reminders that Iran's deterrence of disrupting the oil markets is working just like everyone thought it would.

Having faced no consequences for anything, Trump has noticed that he has the world’s largest military at his command, and believes he has found a brilliant solution for solving problems that no one before him was smart enough to discover: just kill everyone in your way, until they obey you.

So Iran was an extremely serious threat. But also the US had no plans in place to evacuate Americans in the region if Iran had been the one to strike first?

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

Trump admits there were no evacuation plans for Americans abroad due to his war with Iran "because it all happened very quickly."

The Washington Post polling director doesn't comprehend that "afford to buy a home you would want to live in" is not the same as "afford a home". Why was the question phrased like that? Does it matter if people earning six figures say they can't afford seven figure homes?

Scott Clement@sfcpoll.bsky.social

Most renters — including those earning six figures — doubt they could afford a home in the foreseeable future wapo.st/4aG3YIT

so crazy to me that a woman asked trump if he has any words for epstein's victims and he said "you as a young woman should smile more." it will go nowhere bc republicans refuse to hold trump accountable, but it's still pretty crazy.

Andy Waddington reposted

One by one, Europeans mentioned in the Epstein files who still hold political office are beginning to resign or are being forced out of office. Meanwhile, ruled by an administration almost entirely made up of Epstein associates, the US carries on as if nothing really happened.

Verification (establishing truth), Deliberation (arguing about it), and Accountability (binding power to it). When these work, you have substance. When they break, you slide into performance, and eventually, simulation, and people recognise this, even if they don't use a shared terminology.

Attn news commentators: Trump saying he could use force to obtain Greenland but won’t is not Trump saying he won’t use force to obtain Greenland. It is Trump using force as a threat to obtain Greenland. That is why he mentions it.

I extremely hate the policies and personality of Donald Trump to an insane degree but I’d be offended if China sent in team to kill a bunch of our civilians and military personnel and kidnap our leader and his wife and then declare that they now “ran” the United States, this isn’t hard

The Premier League is now 5 seconds of open play then 30 seconds of prepping for a set piece. We can fix this with rule changes: - Teams only get four set pieces per possession - If the set pieces are bad, the other team gets the ball - If they're good, they get four more - Let's call them "downs"
