Wreckers out here getting increasingly upset that Democrats might actually have a historic midterm win. Because heaven forbid anything might get a little bit better across the board. Apparently no-one gets to have anything good--or at least less bad--until we burn it all down and start over.

The thing about this is that Trump's 2024 victory was always built on irreconcilable messages that were going to collapse once he actually had to govern. Deport everyone, but also deport only the "criminals"; no more wars, but also more belligerent, more isolationist, but also more pro-Israel.

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it

See? There is no secret “defeat fascism once and for all” belief system. You just do the work, every election. Far left, center left, it doesn’t matter. Learn the lesson: Stop pretending you’re special and just fucking vote for Democrats.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

The fucking US military is more willing to stand up for its trans members than any UK institution. The US military: yes we do a lot of awful shit but we’re not doing transphobia just because you said so The British Girl Guides: oh gosh, we better throw out all the trans children just to be safe

Woah - boards of service in the Marines and the Navy are ignoring Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth's order to purge transgender troops from the military. "Navy and Marine Corps boards have voted to retain trans members in nine of 12 cases." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...

Trump didn't like Ramaswamy until he saw him sticking up for child rapists and their enablers. He hated the Ivy League until Cornell had a prominent fraternity gang-rape story in the news. He's not just a rapist, not just a serial rapist—he's a rape *enthusiast,* and it's why Republicans love him.

I love how Ramaswamy's ad was so odious that even a lot of Twitter Groypers started going "okay, maybe a bit much..." and JD Vance, who is Vice President of the United States btw, looked at this situation like "okay I know whose side I should weigh in on"

JD Vance is "disgusted" that Republicans are upset about Vivek Ramaswamy's attack ad against Amy Acton. As a reminder, the ad features Acton's mother, who stayed with and defended the man who was indicted for raping her daughter as a child. #OHGov #OHPolitics

Voted yesterday. By which I mean I drove up to the drop box at the county elections office 10 minutes from my house and deposited the sealed, signed ballots for myself and the spouse. Will get email verification when they've been processed. It should be this easy everywhere.

British TV writer Graham Linehan went crazy because people criticized some of the stuff in an episode of his show, an episode that depicted a trans woman. He ruined his career over it. I think it’s ironic that the BBC would almost certainly refuse to air that episode today, for being too pro-trans.

People are wondering why he's saying this when Trump's approval rating is so bad, and I think they're at the level of desperation where their only real play is to try and get the unlikely Trump voters out.

The idea that we are obliged to save the online fascists and nazis from themselves is not one I subscribe to, I've been online for 30+ years now and the number of right-wing chuds who have ever engaged in "dialogue" for any reason except to waste other people's time can be counted on a single hand.

I don't know how the next couple weeks are going to shake out and who knows if the polls are right... But I love knowing that the entire GOP will have a stress ulcer by November 1st.

In Wake County: "Nearly half of all voters who showed up the polls, close to 10,500, were affiliated with the Democratic party. Roughly 8,400 other voters were unaffiliated, and 2,800 were affiliated with the Republican party."

This is the end result of being in a culture that demands that women look young forever instead of aging normally. I generally support people doing whatever they want to their bodies, but let's not pretend that these women haven't been brainwashed into believing they have to do this.

"If more books were published by men with explicitly masculine themes, would there actually be a wider male readership?" This is very much in the Platnerian mode that presumes all men are only attracted to content by, for, and possibly about Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor. jacobin.com/2026/10/lone...

As ballots arrive this week, I would like to remind my fellow Washingtonians to please use a drop box if you can, and get it done early. Yes, very few of our races are all that competitive, but we have some critical ballot measures.

"ADHD label risks lifelong harm to children." If you don't label the disorder, then what we will be labelled instead is "Lazy." "Underachiever." "Doesn't live up to their potential." "Bad student." Those labels come with pain, shame, and abuse. The ADHD label comes with a chance for support.

1. The independent Taskforce — commissioned by NHS England, backed by government — concluded ADHD is under-diagnosed, under-recognised and under-treated in the UK. Not over. The press has reported the reverse of the finding www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

People don’t remark enough on the fact that the most gender-essentialist people on the planet have dubbed themselves “gender critical.” It’s like if neocons had named themselves “war critical” and people had just gone along with it.

As hard as it's been, I'm actually glad that the nightmare of moving (after 17 years in the same house) is happening in the run-up to the election. Keeping so busy I'm half dead from exhaustion is keeping me from obsessing.

At the end of the day it’s almost irrelevant whether you think communism would work or would improve people’s lives (no and no). America is never going to BE communist. It’s simply not a possibility. “Communists” know this. It’s a feature. If your ideology won’t ever be tested, you can’t be wrong.

Also, I spent way too much of my very limited time in a pointless flamewar here yesterday. Need to remember that with the level of stress/low sleep I'm at right now, it's too easy for me to get baited into rageflailing. Probably a good idea to go dark for a bit until things settle more.

Today is a day to remember that terrorists are evil, and giving them what they want--in this case, the complete elimination of Israel--shows them that terrorism works. And if you think the above statement is an endorsement of Likud's equally deplorable actions, you need to get offline for a while.

The Magicians. S4's last few episodes were so offensive it soured me completely on the whole thing.
