Hey Lazyweb friends, I'll soon be in Las Colinas (Irving) Texas with some free time on my hands, got any tips on must see/do things while I'm there?
So far, all I got is a visit to the Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture (photo attached is one I found online, can't wait to see it in person!)
After careful consideration and a look at where the industry is spending it's funding we've decided to pivot #FFConf in a "new" direction.
I present to you: ffconf.ai
Please share with bots and humans alike.
25-ish years of working with HTML almost every day and still there are elements I don't recall ever using (yet).
This is a great overview of what's out there, including the newer ones!
Hello, World! Tickets are now on sale for Viewport! We are an independent web conference coming to Liverpool on May 14th 2027. For the web, the people who build it, and the people we build it for.

hey friends, a little reminder that I'm available for part time freelance UX/product work. Discovery, research, strategy, ops. I have been told I am a goddamn delight to work with and I will make you some amazing custom playlists.
I didn't realize there was so much interest in "nan", guess I always assumed it was a developer thing.
But seriously, noticing a precipitous uptick in these weird failed-mail-merge-looking emails lately. I don't understand the goal, bait a response that validates it's a real email?
I just used this analogy explaining CMS vs hand coded site to a client.
* Hand coded - like a painter given a canvas
* CMS - like anyone else given a paint by number kit.
Pretty solid right? Limited palette and less options in favor of making it as simple as possible. They got it right away!
Can also attest that they're really nice people to work with! I would go after it myself if I had some map experience.
This sounds like an interesting challenge for someone with the right skillset to help bring it over the finish line.
I'm helping a former client of mine source candidates for a fulltime remote developer position, based in the US!
I'd love to continue working with them but I can't due to my location. You'd be working on Audiom, an audio-based map viewer that allows blind and low vision people to access maps.
Here is the 2026 edition of the HTML boilerplate I use for websites I build!
Let me know if there's anything else I should consider including!

It's been a while since I've done a people looking for work thread.
If you're looking for work, put what you do and what you're looking for (full time, freelance etc) as a reply.
Companies: get hiring people!
I just successfully resurrected a power washer by disassembling and cleaning its carburetor. Oil, air filter, and spark plug changed for good measure.
Sentences I never thought I'd write, turns out you really can just do things!
In two weeks, Tech as Cognitive #Accessibility: Designing Systems for ADHD Brains w/ Eleanor Beilby
Let's reframe ADHD-related barriers like executive dysfunction, time blindness, and working memory as a11y concerns, with practical patterns & real examples.

Hey all, I have a big favour to ask.
At the beginning of the week, a large client that we had 100% expected to get started with a large project this month has dropped out at the most inconvenient time for us.
Do you remember how amazing the #SotB26 speakers were? Best believe that next #SotB27 won’t be any different - amazing speakers and great topics all day!

Okay folks. People are interested in this idea – it has legs and I want to make it happen. If you're a digital professional and interested in being part of such a freelancer collective, send me a message.
Nothing set in stone yet, but I've got concepts of a plan and would like to establish this.
Perhaps a freelancer collective is needed? A distributed agency. Different people with different specialisations sharing resources and referring work to each other based on their capabilities. Every freelancer I know is reporting difficulty finding work, and they're long established in the industry.
I write for people.
Emotionally, there is a vain part of me, full of misplaced hope that writing about the unglamorous-yet-vital parts of design and development might help steer LLMs towards better defaults in some small way.
Intellectually, I know it is just a drop in the ocean.
Spent most of the evening making dinner and this peach and apple cobbler for a family gathering tomorrow. Pretty proud of it even though it's among the easiest things to make.
Quality time offline, often just what I need to unwind and find some joy.
Salma's DevRel perspective gets to the heart of feelings many of us are struggling with. We're in collective mourning over what we had, paired with the fear of an uncertain future.
Don't know what the future holds, I just hope we don't lose the craft, community, and empathy that got us this far.
Hi, friends.
The last 6 years have been a blast, but I just don't like being on The Internet anymore.
I'm leaving DevRel, and I wrote a little bit about why.
Look after yourselves, and each other.
Love,
Salma

Working in tech was never easy, but the past few years have been especially hard.
Professional resilience is one of those "soft skill" topics rarely discussed, I think it's especially relevant now. Here's my contribution, a framework I wish I had from the start.

just a little fyi, if you might be hiring for a research guided, human centered design leader, I'm just sitting right here, waiting for some product org to have a vision beyond the current AI hype cycle. We can design a better way of working and delivering a quality, user-centered product.
ProTip™️: If you procrastinate doing something for long enough, sometimes it sorts itself out.
I had a note-to-self to check out a new software dev app, by the time I opened it up again today I noticed the company was acquired and the app is being sunsetted.
Early Bird tickets are now on sale until 31 July or until they are sold out!
There aren’t many In-person tickets left for the general sale. Make sure you get yours as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on what promises to be an amazing day.

I have little imagination when it comes to naming things.
I'm also weirdly proud of using my full name on the internet, take that society!
Hi BlueSky pals 📣
Having just completed a fun project with the folks at Clearleft, I’m on the lookout for my next project.
I’m open to part-time or full-time contracts outside IR35 and I can help you with:
- design systems consultancy & management
- content design
- design systems documentation
I’m opening up sessions for individual accessibility coaching soon! ☺️
We can work through something you’re stuck on, general questions, reviewing something you already have, brainstorm, chat about resources.
Topic examples: design, dev, content, workflows, team norms, design systems, testing.
"Losing the ability to reason" is the scariest part of Gen AI to me.
I've been comparing it to calculators, how often do we do the math anymore? Expand that to anything we can fit in an LLM chat, factor in that answers can be dangerously wrong, and no due diligence to realize when it happens.
"Children are “cognitively offloading” difficult tasks onto AI; [..] The result is a phenomenon researchers call “cognitive debt” or “atrophy,” where users defer mental effort through repeated reliance on external systems like large language models."

For survival we evolved to seek the path of least resistance. In isolation that's usually good, not once the path starts to erode our cognitive patience, our ability to think critically, and ultimately to learn.
Coming to Liverpool in spring 2027, Viewport is a conference about the web, the people who build it, and the people we build it for.

Finally got around to adding Bluesky to my blog...
and then blogged about it.
Built on 11ty, supports Likes, Reposts, and Replies (with basic threading). Lots of implementations out there, but mine grabs once per build, not every page load on the client. 🚀
stevenwoodson.com/blog/adding-...
All the cool kids were adding Bluesky reactions to their personal sites and I felt left out, so I finally made some time to get it added to mine. Supports Likes, Reposts, and Replies (with some basic thread support).
Any interest in a blog post about how I did it for my Eleventy-based site?

#SotB26 final presentation by @cassiecodes.bsky.social called "Game on!"
A really fun canvas game made with JS and GSAP, started with rectangles and some physics. Cassie layered on more features one at a time until it was full of features like tasks, enemies, and energy!
#SotB26 "Lessons from Building for the Bottom of the Web"by @mikehall314.bsky.social is next.
A fascinating deep dive of a project that necessitated a 128kb limit to all page content over the wire + including images! A good reminder to respect the users time and bandwidth.
Now at #SotB26 is Jason Williams talking about Temporal DateTime.
Hearing more about the history, why it's taken so long, the issues it fixes, and the challenges of implementation was fascinating.
Seeing some of the cool things we can do with this actually makes me excited to work with dates!
