We (the USA) not only can't lead, we probably still don't have it in us to follow. We are gnats, gnats with guns and knives.

A RED STAR SHINES OVER BRAZIL! Lula is reelected! Brazilians managed to mobilize and beat Bolsonaro, Trump, Meta, Google, Netanyahu, media oligarchs, corrupt judges, fascism, imperialism, apathy and hatred! May this victory bring hope to all our comrades fighting across the world! We can beat them

None of us should forget this. Meta should be subjected to corporate death penalty and permanently broken up into small pieces.

Mark Zuckerberg is straight up way more evil than Elizabeth Holmes but because he’s got a lot of money the tech press has to go to his little events and pretend his ideas are valid instead of being like “what’s up with that dumbass shirt?” and “don’t you regularly influence elections/genocides?”

"Debate" has been corrupted by codifying it into a competitive sport imo; at this point it is rarely a method for good faith actors to hit upon best solutions or refine a shared reality; it's mostly a vector for bad faith actors to keep failed and destructive ideas in perpetual zombie currency.

Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò@olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social

it's understandable to think of constructive debate as an ideal and then to figure that *any* debate is therefore a step towards political values and virtues. but I think most debates, particularly in the social media age, make conversations and outlooks worse than where they started

I remember a stoned argument years ago involving a friend who was a photojournalist describing his job as being "the unblinking eye of history" and my film studies roommate responded with something like "but it does blink, and you choose the conditions of its blinking". Stuck with me.

If our system of justice can determine that shooting a one year-old is justified, then we do not have a system of justice, and our goal should be the eradication of the system we have and its replacement with something better.

Ashton Pittman@ashtonpittman.bsky.social

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

To John Cleese, feeling "able to move abroad" is distinct from the presumed mindset of unwelcome immigrants. Very coherent personal politics!

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

It's that time of the year again. Don't donate to the Salvation Army. Donate to your local queer-supportive organizations instead. We need to make sure EVERYONE can eat every day of the week, not just people that can fit a certain societal mold.

fucking loser shit, everyone involved looks like the dumbest pissbaby on earth. who should be shoved into the locker first, the slop enthusiast thinking a machine can understand abuse, or the tech weirdos thinking it cares?

Hi folks-- We're starting on our next indexing project, and we're building our volunteer team! If you have some degree of Japanese fluency and want to help index periodicals for VGHF, hit me up here

Video Game History Foundation@gamehistoryorg.bsky.social

Starting today, we're piloting Japanese magazines in our digital archive! We've spent the last few months upgrading our library infrastructure to support Japanese-language material, starting with the magazine Neo Geo Freak. Read the full blog post for more info: gamehistory.org/5k-magazines/

More than what Frank said, I think a big reason VGHF has been able to build trust is that we've approached our collections in a way that is human and thoughtful, instead of just acting like wolves tearing at meat. If all you care about is Stuff, then you'll end up treating people's lives like Stuff

Frank Cifaldi@frankcifaldi.bsky.social

I think I'm thinking about this way too hard but like, this is really dehumanizing? Like when we inherit a collection or help people whose loved ones made games but can't speak for themselves anymore, we separate "collectibles" from archival/personal and we handle the latter with care and tact.

I got an email from this guy yesterday. He's going to be at PRGE, probably networking and fishing for more interviews. My plea to any developers or industry people he approaches: Please don't accept his requests. Please don't enable hate. Everyone else, please be civil. Preferably just ignore.

Under capitalism homelessness not only has to exist, it has to be as miserable as possible for the people experiencing it, because it's the threat of homelessness that keeps the working class in line and desperate for jobs. Human suffering is an essential component of capitalist profit.

A reminder that all the aspects of our economic system are made up and we can have a better system if we wanted to. Homelessness for example. We could have an economy that builds homes for homeless people. It does not have to be this way.

it doesn't have to be good. it just has to be yours. "good" is for marketing suits and focus groups. if you make it you enough, you'll dip into that vibrant spark of life that animates all of us. you'll pull up a bit of that light. and then it will be great. the only way to make great is to be you.

There's a really important point in here: the term 'deportation' has become Newspeak. The correct term is "human trafficking" because what this regime is doing fits that description much more than the genteel ideas we hold about 'deportation.'

That the electorate could even contemplate such a man rather than reject him outright shames us all. That our founding laws could permit him to get in a position where the electorate could choose him shames our laws. That our institutions have not bodily removed him shames our institutions.

Words of encouragement to whomever needs to hear it: moving from #Onenote to #markdown felt GOOD, even if first impressions had me feeling uneasy. Timesheets became fun again. I like the Obsidianite theme for #Obsidian a lot.

AI's initial sales pitch was "we are providing capital with the final weapon in their war on labor" and that didn't seem to appeal to the labor side of the political spectrum, for some reason.
