We had some brief down time about 15 mins ago and expecting some more in roughly 45mins that should not last longer than about 10 minutes. This will be around 21:30 UTC, after this it should be smooth sailing and you can login till your heart's content again

We have been made aware of some possible issues with logging in both via password and OAuth sessions if you have 2FA turned on. Our very best developer has identified the problem and is testing the fix as we speak.

Probably noticed our landing page hasn't really been working lately. Took some time to get it back in order! I also added a few feature requests. selfhosted.social - post feed is back - New "Join" page so you can create your account directly on our PDS - An account shortcut

And we should be back! Sorry about that. I think it took close to , or a bit over, the whole 30 minutes. This was a bit of an unusual maintenance that is thankfully a one time thing.

Can expect some down time tonight on 04-04-2026 around 02:00 UTC, or 10pm eastern on the 3rd. We are hoping this should take only 30mins or less. Can also expect there will be some more down time next week, but details will follow.

The deets: Every record/event written to a PDS is sent on the "firehose". That's how it goes from the PDS -> relay -> appview. The order of those events and some info is stored in a sqlite db named sequencer. The PDS does not trim that automatically, so since the PDS has been running it has been..

growing. Ours is now at 8.4gigs. The maintenance is to shrink it by trimming anything out that is over 48 hours. In my tests I found it brought the size down to 54mb. With this being the first one I need to bring down the server to do it. After that it's a cron job every 48 hours to keep it clean.

You can now sign up to @rocksky.app with @selfhosted.social

ATProto devs did you know you can use selfhosted.social for users to create brand new accounts on the atmosphere in your applications? Both deckbelcher.com and blento.app uses our PDS. A user's journey into the atmosphere does not always have to be started from Bluesky. It can start from your app.

To do this you just pass the full PDS url prefixed with https, instead of a handle on oauth. This will give them a screen where they can create a new account, then redirect authenticated to your app. On this page users can also review our T&S and privacy policy before they create the account

You may also let them know they may already have an account on the atmosphere, especially if they found out about it via a Bluesky post. There are also other great PDSs that do not require an invite code, like Blacksky at blacksky.app. Each PDS has their own T&S so best to review those first.

You can now signup directly on blento.app without having to already have an atproto/bluesky account! Powered by @selfhosted.social's PDS (thankfully didnt have to set up my own pds 🫶), pretty happy with the sign-up flow too 😊 from no account to created blento page in less than 1 minute!

I second this. If you are running a tap instance if you could please update to this. If you have heard me talking about @selfhosted.social's high CPU usage, it was this. There was a bug where when a tap instance subscribed to a repo and the repo changed in any way, tap would download the whole repo

just published a fix for a bug in Tap that was causing over-fetching of repos when filtering based on collection if you're using Tap, strongly encourage upgrading (to v0.1.4)! you can upgrade to the latest by pulling ghcr.io/bluesky-social/indigo/tap:latest

This is expected to happen tomorrow, and we do not expect any downtime when Bluesky PBC does the changeover. Can keep an eye on our notice message at the top of selfhosted.social if anything changes and will send out modmail via email if there is an extended outage.

The popular firehose service at 'bsky.network' is finally going to be upgraded this coming Tuesday. The disruption to PDS operators, firehose consumers, and jetstream users should be minimal, but read the full post for all the details.

Some more details from another post. You may have also notice but we now have a status on the webpage that will update anytime we have issues, as well as you should of received an email earlier from the PDS notification system about the outage

Hey everyone this @baileytownsend.dev, if you are on selfhosted.social you may have noticed that your posts may not be working. We are currently in what I've been calling "relay hell" tldr: We blew past the bsky relay rate limit and it is slowly working through the backlog. It's out of my hands rn.

Looks like we have a pretty large backlog of records for the relay to process, but hoping things should be back to normal as those process. Sorry again everyone about this!

selfhosted.social appears to be having some issues where posts are delayed before showing after they are created. This affects new posts, replies, and likes. Looking into it. Details: I think we are experiencing high volume of create records and the relay may be rate limiting us a bit

We were indeed vulnerable to this type of attack, and it has now been patched. This would have only affected you on our landing page at selfhosted.social, nowhere else like inside of the bsky.app. Also, we have no reports that anyone attempted this before the vulnerability was found and patched

I was made aware of this possible attack vector last night and was kindly informed that we could be vulnerable to it on our landing page. As soon as I was made aware I turned off our landing page till it could be tested. All PDS operations are still operational, but the landing page is down for now.

Be aware that there are accounts attempting to steal session keys. This particular method won’t work using the Bluesky app for a couple of reasons, but third party apps may be vulnerable to similar attempts. We will attempt to automatically label these as Platform Manipulation.

This would have been a XSS on the landing page and could affect you if you visited the page and a bad actor had posted this malicious record on the PDS. It is never fun to find a vulnerability that could put users at risk that trust you as a dev, and for that I apologize and feel awful about it.

Thankfully it does not look like the attack was ever leveraged. The landing page is down while I give it a much better once over and santize URLS we render. All of the ATProto PDS system bits are still operational and not affected. This XSS vuln was on our cosmetic landing page
