I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

chat I don’t think doubling down on this ad is working out real well for vivek

Fun tip: once you control for family income, absolutely nothing else—AT ALL—makes a statistically significant difference in academic outcomes Gifted and Talented programs are essentially just income-sorting

Somebody said "They voted for racism and got poverty" The thing is... social scientists and economists have been saying for the last 50 years Racism is austerity

She only punished herself with that tantrum. That’s the couch that she lies on. Now she’s giving me big sad puppy eyes to convince me to put it back together

Her "immigration status" is that she's been a US citizen longer than either Melania Trump or Elon Musk. The Democrats SHOULD use this opportunity for 100% solidarity with one of their own, and throw the fucking kitchen sink at Trump and his Republicans. I doubt they will but would LOVE to be wrong.

Now for something a little different. 🍂 Over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I went for a walk and was lucky enough to catch the salmon still making their run here in #Toronto. Watching them push upstream was a powerful reminder that while the current may be strong, purpose is stronger. 🐟💪

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

While this loom is a computer dobby and I often want to fight it in a Waffle House parking lot, it's still an in-house loom run by a single craftsperson. So no danger from Loombreaker here.

For those who have no clue what I'm on about, I highly recommend this book on the Luddites, and the part handweavers played in labor movements, and how that relates to big tech Warning: You'll want to take your own Loombreaker to a data center after reading www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/brian...

And for the record, my dobby loom would absolutely say "here's where the problem is! You asked me to do this and I didn't do it" if given a language module It does that quite regularly already, and right now its only method of communicating is *angry buzz*

In our course and book _Calling Bullshit_, we posit that If something seems too good, or too bad, to be true, it probably is. Now as a college professor I'm pretty confident that overreliance can AI can harm our thinking ability, but just ten minutes of use? Let's dig into this this study a bit.

National Coming Out Day is way deeper than a social media trend. October 11th was chosen because it’s the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.

Also mutes take alt text into account. If you mute a word and it shows up in alt text, you won't see that post. I deeply appreciate people who use alt text!

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

This is not "a controversial vaccine trial," it's biological warfare, conducted by European researchers on African infants. It's imperialism, racism, eugenics, and the hubris of incredibly stupid people. It's denying vaccines to newborns! In what fuckin universe is this a "vaccine trial"?
