Not gonna lie I would totally do this. Answering dumbass personality questions is one of the most unnecessarily annoying things in the world and outsourcing it to the slop machine is Good.

Making myself angry for no reason at all remembering the American transit planner that went to Amsterdam and was appalled at how little stakeholder engagement they did in favor of actually building shit.

Already in 2023, my company had thousands of concurrent agents. People are always very impressed by how futuristic it must’ve been, until I clarify they were all insurance agents

It’s so cool how the modern conservative movement is antithetically opposed to property rights when it comes to legalizing homebuilding

Yonah Freemark@yonahfreemark.com

Conservative government of Alberta is preempting Edmonton, requiring the city to: —Reverse the city's 2024 change allowing small-scale apartment buildings to be built citywide. Change resulted in a building boom: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... —Restore parking requirements, which city eliminated in 2020

I heard once that post-WWII immigrants to Australia received formal instruction on the cultural importance of “slacking off” and “taking it easy”.

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

On here this is a preaching to the choir thing to say, but the turn against Indian immigrants is the sharpest possible example of ‘real debate, fake debate’ wrt heritability of IQ. 90% of the guys Just Following The Science are now waxing rhapsodically about white indigenous ways of knowing.

Once again, if you are a senior researcher spreading doom to junior researchers, shut up shut up shut up. It’s your job to figure out a path forward, even in high uncertainty times. Come back when you have something constructive.

Constantly complaining about LLMs being shit at architecture but not doing anything to address it is getting kinda pathetic

i'm actually going to take this goofy post somewhat seriously: much as going to the gym requires discipline, so too does going to the mental gym require discipline. and discipline is harder than it looks: it is about *your* ability to discipline *yourself*

the tech industry is about to invent books

I actually find this not-very-surprising at all, given that pretty much any sufficiently complicated hunk of garbage ends up turing complete somehow

Should YOU do Programming Languages research in era of LLMs? Many would say NO. But I say YES! PL Research is dead? Nay! the era of PL Exploration is just beginning. Fuck the users. Fuck the applications. Let's do some fucking PL research! kirancodes.me/posts/log-en...

advice for junior developers: you are no longer a developer you are a builder you are a solution provider enter every room and make things happen learn when no one is watching create because you can fix problems because they offend you bend the world to your will and take credit

An embiggened version of this is gonna be how we get persistent agents huh?

Seeing this sort of thing always makes me paranoid about where I’m personally being intellectually incurious, rigid in my thinking, and incapable of updating on clear evidence, as clearly someone smarter and more successful than myself is far from immune.

Apparently in China, they have a system which measures your labour input and social position and then determines what kind of house you can live in, what education your kids experience and even whether you can get on a plane or not. It's called "money".

I love telling people about that utopian time not so long ago when Uyghurs, Chinese, Kazakhs, Manchus, Mongols all held hands and cooperated and strived towards a common goal, and it is *so* fun to reveal the goal after all that buildup

Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

yes, we have cooperated, we are a cooperative, social species--that is a given. but so often we have also cooperated in order to compete--just ask the many large and dangerous prey animals we slaughtered on our way here. this peculiar blend of cooperation and competition is our inheritance

(The goal being the genocide of the Dzungars. Manchus got territorial expansion, Chinese got farmland, Uyghurs got farmland+better religious support, Kazakhs mostly did massacres of refugees so they wouldn’t have to deal with them, mongols got to feel important and retain their privileged status)

ok real talk, but slack AI is like... really fucking good? works really well for stuff like: - what does <company acronym> mean - what is <project name> - show me the figma links <designer> has shared in the last week props to the team -- very good indexing, great response time, 10/10

I’m sick of them building all these data centers in impoverished counties that can’t fight back. Just once, they should try building a data center in a wealthy area, like Loudoun County or Santa Clara! The pushback would be legendary

Luna (light) is absurdly lazy, it’s making me understand loop engineering. Unironically: I think /goals are mostly overkill with high-thinking models, but they’re 1000% essential with cheapo lobotomized underthinkers
