Quite surprised to see so many positive replies to the post. Do those people just not agree with the idea of an embargo at all? It feels pretty obvious to me that if you trust someone to wait, and they don't, then next time you won't give them the information (binaries, whatever) in the first place

Asking random American Muslims to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood is like asking random American Jews to disavow Israel. They’re both tropes about dual loyalties. If you can understand why one is inappropriate, you should be able to understand why the other is, too.

Saying he'd be cool with Iran nuking my home city is pretty bad but not quite as bad as when Hillary said some trump supporters were deplorable so I can see why the media turned the latter into a major scandal and not the former

I don't love dunking on folks but it's so fucking funny to me that Trump was convicted of 34 felonies 2 years ago, faced no punishment, and went on to win the presidency a second time and journalists are still like, "hmm, I have an inkling that maybe he believes he's above the law for some reason."

You know, if Apple & Google are committing themselves to simply adopt GNIS names, there's no reason for the next president not to direct GNIS to rename Lake Worth Lagoon (on which Mar-a-Lago sits) to The Rapist and Traitor Donald Trump Lagoon

All LLM output needs significant editing before it's good. This is true for code and for prose.

Claude produces overly verbose and often confusing documentation. Please clean up stuff before you pass that off to other humans. Not an endorsement for other LLM's. I know gpt can tend to be quite terse and my guess is it would do the same with docs which is still the same problem.

If the Democrats really want to run on an anti corruption platform (and i think they should), this means coming out against prediction markets, crypto, and sports betting, all of which are either directly corrupt or facilitate corrupt acts.

Prediction markets are not predictive and should not be covered as news

I cannot overstate how much I hate when people are dicks about babies crying in public (especially airplanes). Do you think the parent is having a good time right now?? Do you think they are not aware of the situation??? Are you going to negotiate with a literal infant????

You do not have to give people “due process” before you choose not to vote for them. You can just be like “oh word the guy who wrote rape apologia and had allegations just got another serious allegation? Guess he doesn’t need to be my senator.”

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

In evaluating the whining about “doxxing” — by which they mean identifying federal employees who killed someone under color of law - remember this administration cooperates with a large cadre of obedient bootlicker Right media that leaps to the tasks of viciously lying about anyone they kill.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Naming someone is not doxxing. They aren’t undercover. They aren’t intelligence agents overseas. This is outrageous - we are supposed to be a free Republic and these people want an authoritarian police state. Lawsuits should be filed & ranking Dems in Congress should act.

Quite a change to go from "these were domestic terrorists and their killings were totally justified, heroic even" to "no one wants these people killed, how DARE you suggest trump wants this." I wonder if the press will be capable of covering this shameless flailing as a scandal

This is, in my opinion, not only the correct moral/ethical/legal position but also the correct political framing. Everyone can see the agency is out of control; everyone can see that it is constantly violating human rights. "Scrap it and start over" is the moderate position.

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.

OK, right here you're found the problem and please sit with this: emotions are running very high. emotional intelligence is needed in this moment in addition to logic. democrats are failing the emotional intelligence test right now and people are mad about it.

Samuel Karp reposted

If it helps, people are mad at Democrats because many of their social media presences produce comms which address what's happening as though we're simply dealing with the consequences of going along with a bad restaurant recommendation. The food isn't just bad, we want to shut down the restaurant.
