Should not be overlooked that this interview took place because a Harvard faculty member invited him to speak to his class. Despite criticisms (sometimes from within), universities are unrivaled radical free-speech institutions. Where else would invite in a person hell bent on destroying them?
Wild and revealing interview with Steve Bannon about Trump's attack on universities. ""Universities, Bannon said, are the only reason that Democrats are “able to compete with us.”" www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/27/n...

Republicans in TX were traditionally more accepting of Latinos than many other Republican states. GWB was able to translate this goodwill from his time as governor to a strong showing among Latinos in both his presidential bids. The nightmare for Texas Rs is a Dem leaning mobilized Latino population
Here's the updated Hispanic/Latino numbers from selected states. Sure appears we have a clear and documented backlash to Trump's cruel mass deportations policies on our hands. 2/

Good essay here from @juliaazari.bsky.social. Since Julia is in part asking for other social scientists to weigh in here, I thought I'd add some thoughts that have been germinating in my head for while. The main point is that the base of evidence that anti-trans ads 'work' is paper thin. (1/2)
Social scientists have lent our names to calls for electoral system change and rule of law, because of the findings of our disciplines. We should do the same for anti-trans ads, which have dubious benefit and demonstrable harm. My latest at GP/BP goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/social-sci...

Geeze, tell me about it. Read point 3. Glory to the nation, all else is not allowed and those speaking as such should be reported to the speech police.
Nothing says “aspiring authoritarian” quite like the regime posting a sign inside Independence Hall enlisting the public to report any deviations from an official propaganda version of history.
He goes on to say that Trump has done "more for humanity and more for America than any other President ever." It is a sign of authoritarianism and a corruption of democracy that even when Trump is deeply unpopular and everyone knows it, syncophants still compete to kiss his ass the most.
Joe Mitchell gives Trump "the man of the century" award (that he just made up)

Thank you to Georgetown McCourt School of Public Policy for hosting the second annual Political Analytics Conference. Pictured: the State of Polling 2026 panel with Ruth Igielnik, @gelliottmorris.com, Patrick Ruffini and Verasight co-founder @peterenns.bsky.social, moderated by Michael Bailey.
This is going to launch (important) hand-wringing.
"No matter how we look at the data, AI wins. It wins in 100% of the pairs overall when judged by another AI model...and 87% overall when judged by human journal editors... [H]umans agreed as much or more with AI’s judgment than they did with other humans" gking.harvard.edu/files/peerle...

People said this same thing about Irish, African Americans, Chinese, and every other group that newly entered the public stage. It always looks foolish in retrospect. And I admire those who trailblaze and put up with the cost of such bigotry. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...
I truly admire Muslim public servants in the United States who choose to serve knowing that they will be relentlessly subject to this bigotry.
Even by Trump standards, this is staggering corruption. Direct payments from foreign princes. Given that Congress wont, even though it should, impeach over this, they should demand Kushner be removed from government roles (official or not).
There are bombshells and there's this www.vanityfair.com/story/jared-...
The thing about these numbers is that they continue a downward trend, and yet many voters are just tuning in now while Trump and his surrogates are visibly diminished and their messaging is way worse than it was 24 months ago, when they last paid attention. The poll numbers may get worse.
CNN on the new CNN poll: "Trump's approval rating is now at 32%, that is a new record low ... you don't want to hit a record low two weeks out from election day"
This is remarkably dangerous. Polls are one way we understand the integrity of election results. They are a tool of democracy. Here is a vengeful regime official implying that networks can be punished for polls they don't like.
In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)
The trends here are unmistakable. And keep in mind that a lot of voters are going to come online for the first time in the next two weeks.
Updated the Trump approval and party trust trends with our new Strength In Numbers/ @verasight.io poll. All-time lows for Trump on prices, deportations — pretty much everything. Plus, Democrats now lead on immigration, foreign policy, and the economy www.gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-10-21...
Trump too is in a disastrous war, but it pales in comparison to the deadly fiasco of Iraq. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/21/u...
Some recent thoughts on "Open Inquiry": www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...
This was caught and corrected...which seems like a vindication of the rigor of the polling industry, no? It's like when fake research is exposed - it's not an indictment of the scientific process, but the opposite. (also, what they are stating there is a question, not a hypothesis)
As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment"
Read this paragraph. It is corruption on an unprecedented scale. A whole industry of selling presidential power. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...
Innocent people were killed by a belligerent foe of the United States because of this choice made by the President and the richest man in the world. It is gross failure and they should both be stripped of all power.

Don't love this result, but also don't love the survey question. It is double-barreled, asking people to both assign value to empathy AND to "a healthy society" versus "God's truth". A deeply religious person is likely going to choose the latter, even if they see value in empathy.
We will look back (likely in the not too distant future) and hold institutions that capitulated to the authoritarian attack in disdain. You can justify it however you want, but it is clear what is happening here. www.insidehighered.com/news/quick-t...
Remarkable visual on the collapse of Trump's support. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/19/u...
As a faculty member struggling to determine the role of AI in research and teaching, I found this perspective useful.
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg
