Incredible encapsulation of the AI bubble and its specific destructive power by @doctorow.pluralistic.net: pluralistic.net/2025/12/05/p... As a corollary, the only, but specific way that AI will destroy the world is by people’s reliance on hallucination-machines as search engines

Absolutely wild. WSJ reporting that some OpenAI staffers thought the Tumbler Ridge shooter's use of ChatGPT raised the potential of real world violence but leadership decided not to alert RCMP. www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...

So I have the cover story in next month's TNR. I interviewed the heads of police groups; immigration defense attorneys, ex-judges and ex-prosecutors; former DOJ and DHS officials, and the former head of Border Patrol. They're all horrified at what we've seen, and they all fear what's coming.

I love this rant, Pookle. For what it's worth, this is the best estimate of OpenAI's "informed business-as-usual" financial futures. OpenAI is expected to pay out $30 billion on revenues of $13 billion in 2025. They're set to lose $2.42 for every $1.00 they earn. www.ft.com/content/23e5...

September 13, 2026 will be the 20th anniversary, in point of fact. For a brief period of time, my cat Ghlaghghee (pronounced "fluffy") was the most famous cat on the Internet. She took it in stride. One of the great moments of the blog era. We should do something for the anniversary. Suggestions?

Exclusive: Anthropic spent $2.66 billion on Amazon Web Services in the first three quarters of 2025, around 100% of their estimated revenue. Its costs appear to increase with their revenue, showing little path to profitability. www.wheresyoured.at/costs/

Hey everyone! Quick question: are these margins good? is Negative 220% good? If it helps the thing in question cost $50,000 and you need hundreds or thousands of them. Also the thing with negative 100% gross margins costs $1.9m, is that good? www.theinformation.com/articles/ora...

*The AI boom = one of the costliest building sprees in world history * Past 3 years' commitments are greater than the cost of building the U.S. interstate highway system * Consumers must spend $800 billion on AI within a few years, to justify investment from 2023-24 www.wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-b...
My day is ruined.
CHOTINER: So you said that a continuous function's graph can be drawn without picking up your pencil? ME: Yes, that's the basic idea. CHOTINER: But continuous functions aren't necessarily differentiable? ME: That's right. CHOTINER: And then you told your class about Weierstrass's function?

Analysts show that capital expenditures on AI were so big over the last 6 months they added more to the GDP than *all consumer spending*. That growth is offsetting pain from the tariffs and slow job growth. So the AI bubble may be propping up the whole US economy. What happens if and when it pops?
