the last 20% to get a product shipped and successful is as difficult as ever this is where 99% of programmers have always fallen off the first 80% is a lot easier and so we're seeing more abandoned projects than ever

be careful in your pursuit of cheap tokens we've come across so many sketchy things that are out there with tons of usage remember you're hooking up your harness to these inference providers. they can and do crazy things like send fake tool calls to steal your info 1/2

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

Basically it's the difference between what the anti-AI hardliners think vibe coding is vs what vibe coding actually is

1 reason I try not to opt into AI discourse is because I’m pretty sure the group of people who find it empowering for software/productivity is inevitably smaller than the group of people who find it marginalizing for other kinds of labor/creativity and yet for better and worse I’m in the first group

It enables people to create software so easily that we will be able to move away from the tech monopolies that dominate our lives

The cool thing on Bluesky is that you can use follows, labelers, blocks, and mutes to curate your experience and find the stuff that you're interested in, and hide what you're not. You can read about AI generated popularity contests if you want. You can also not. Make Bluesky what you want it to be.

Creating a windows installer from anything other than windows necessitates using a third-party USB tool that you download from somebody random, because of course it does I pulled relatively popular a git repo, and had an agent run an audit of the code before building. I want that power more.

Perhaps we ought to be building everything from source now so we can do this kind of thing. Distributing binaries becomes considered bad practice.

FFS, this is so fucked… 😩 Would it kill the people here to not chase away any tech person who comes here and says something about AI?… I really want tech discussions and communities to hang out here and not on Elon's far-right playground 😐

when everyone has a different explanation of why the bad numbers are not that bad or why the small number is still very important, the simplest explanation is that the bad number is actually just indeed very bad

So I guess either Bluesky becomes a nonprofit or we all start sharing our Threads handles on here…?

This is one of my concerns too.. some platforms ask you to sign in via your bluesky account, but before signing in, i have to make sure the url and everything seem correct, and then wait for the verification code even then, it doesn't seem to remember the login for the long term ...

spacecowboy@spacecowboy17.bsky.social

This is a reasonable concern. Thanks for sharing off-band. Note, during signin foryou.club does not request any permissions to your account. It cannot read your private data or post on your behalf. It only validates that you control that account.

somehow, i feel that "sign in with google" is more straightforward, there, my checkpoint is the accounts i've already signed into, so i'm sure it's not a fake sign in screen. This is why I still prefer app passwords. I can just delete them after use. @alexbenzer.com

Every time I feel like I somewhat caught up with how things are done these days, it turns out that actually since June this is all completely outdated and everyone is five layers above me already…

All my apps are like this. I build them for myself, and if I use them, I keep updating them. And now I'm down to three, and I regularly use them for different purposes. It's a great feeling to use social media the way you want to use it.

Boris@bmann.ca

There are many things being built on atproto. Many of them won’t get adopted or thrive. And yes, many are built without user research. It’s OK? Don’t use things you don’t want to. Promote things you like. And build something yourself if you feel like it. Do it the way YOU want it to be.

Interesting trend: CTO/ Head of Eng / VPE folks at startups and mid-sized companies are... leaving / burning out. Hiring for these roles is HARD, but even after filling the role, they will often leave a few months later and take a career break And they have v good reasons

True. And it often leads to exhaustion, then a break, then the same path all over again.

AI is creating an obsessive workaholic mentality in tech due to two related dynamics 1. Getting stuff done with tools like Claude Code creates a dopamine hit of feeling productive. It’s like TikTok but for work. 2. AI is “the next big thing” and everyone feels FOMO. Combined it leads to overwork

Well I'm gonna be boring, but this one… In all my years on Twitter, FB, IG etc. I often had various ideas for things I wanted to do there to automate things, process information, extend things, get more out of it, and I couldn't because it was too restricted. And now I can do all of that here ✨

This post is unavailable.

Seeing how SOTA models are evolving: becoming more restrictive in usage (decided by the company), less transparent (you cannot tell if the AI lab nerfed your model) + less private (your prompts are stored, no opt out) makes me much more interested in open models + local inference

What Ricardo said is better: > people don't need to get outraged, they need to walk away.

Ricardo J. Méndez@ricardo.bsky.social

Eh, again... 🤷‍♂️ Corpos gonna corpo. Same as with Facebook, Twitter, or any of the others: people don't need to get outraged, they need to walk away. If they insist on feeding the beast, they deserve whatever the beast does to them. And they'll continue doing it while they see *some* value.

We were told that the advances in AI would mean we'd have UBI and/or four day work weeks, but it's been clear for a while that the only two options corporations want are less people to pay and/or squeeze even more productivity out of people

this gets especially ugly with reposts and quote posts. plus, post editing adds more complexity and required tooling for our T&S team. so if we do this, we'll need guardrails.
