Out today, the UNEP Emissions Gap Report 2026, with our new chapter (five) on where the world stands across the action areas of the global stocktake, and what we must do, together, to limit exceedance of 1.5°C🧵 Co-led with @sophieboehm.bsky.social and @louisejeffery.bsky.social

The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: https://ow.ly/SNHX50ZZz8l

I had a fun change of audience today, talking to my kids’ primary school about where our energy comes from. I showed them the super book written by my friend @willmcdowall.bsky.social, and we brainstormed the brilliant jobs they could do when they’re older to help protect the planet.

While writing up an analysis of environment implications of the budget I went back to what I had done for Budget 2025 for comparison. What people are missing is that the concern its just that the gov has paused the carbon tax, its that the carbon tax was never being allocated correctly to begin with

Delighted to see this pre-print online. Great work by PhD student Neha Jaggeshar on creating a national intergrated model so we can explore interactions across land (L), energy (E), agriculture (A) and forest (F) systems. Discussion open egusphere.copernicus.org/preprints/20...

egusphere.copernicus.orgTowards a national integrated model for land, energy, agriculture and forest systems (TIM-LEAF v1.0)Abstract. Achieving ambitious climate change mitigation necessitates integrated approaches across energy, agriculture, land use, and forestry (AFOLU) systems. Yet, national modelling typically treats ...

We have a new pre-print for open peer-review on EGU. "Towards a national integrated model for land, energy, agriculture and forest systems (TIM-LEAF v1.0)" describes a new integrated modelling framework led by Neha Jaggeshar as part of our EPA-funded SELFS project.

It would, I think, be worthwhile if those of us engaged in the work stoppage today, and the forthcoming strike days on the 14th & 21st (if they go ahead), were to observe the digital picket during those times. Posting is public engagement, and public engagement is part of your job. #digitalpicket

Members of my union, IFUT, will have a one hour work stoppage today, from 12-1, as part of the broader public sector union dispute. Read about it here: www.ifut.ie/content/ifut... - solidarity welcome on World Teachers Day

As part of the ongoing public sector pay dispute I participated in a 1 hour work stoppage this afternoon. Today is World Teacher’s day, if education is valued those who teach, research, supervise and support students need to be valued too! #Solidarity to all those who are taking industrial action

The case for planning for the inevitable, well made.

Ireland needs to stop reacting to individual climate events and start preparing systematically for a climate of greater extremes. The Council says Ireland’s climate resilience planning and preparation does not yet match the scale or urgency of the risks the country faces. shorturl.at/0rBfZ

Genuinely great to see solar, heat pump and retrofit grants targeting vulnerable homes. It's also good to see the boiler scrappage scheme come immediately rather than in January. I'm sure a lot of people retrofitting right now, and the companies, are relieved they will qualify.

The Government has approved a significant expansion of home energy grants, including a new additional €2,000 payment to encourage households to scrap fossil fuel heating systems and switch to heat pumps or other renewable heating

something extraordinary is happening on Garvaghy Road Northern Ireland. Decent minded protestants & unionists have started to come out to support the Garvaghy residents, against the Orange Order parade madness. This is truly extraordinary. quick 🧵

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
