“When mayors in other cities ask me how #Copenhagen afforded to invest in its cycling networks, I ask them how on earth they have been able to afford highway projects. We invested in bike lanes because that was the cheapest option.” What the world can learn from Copenhagen’s cycling revolution.

High pressure looks to set up by the end of this week - it's within the top 97.5-99%iles of climatology; how sunny it'll be depends on the orientation of the high, which is still being played with. Near record high to near record low to near record high, the weather for you. 😁

Some unhinged comments and quote posts on this. Machine learning with artificial neural networks has transformed the environmental sciences, and rightly deserved the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics. This isn’t using a chatbot to predict hurricanes.

Ireland as a metaphor for all of us.

While Ireland is at risk from the impending bursting of the AI bubble, it has not benefitted much from AI's growth. The investment happening here is producing little that can be taxed, and few jobs. It's virtually all cost and no benefit to us as a country. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

I assume everyone who wrote about the hospital bike shed in their columns and talked about the hospital bike shed on their radio shows and tweeted about the hospital bike shed on their Nazi owned micro blogging app are very excited to discuss this

Saturday El Niño update - Sea surface temperatures are still warming across Niño region 3.4 over the last week. Note that I finally had to readjust the scale on the map view, so it's not quite comparable to prior updates. 🌊 Data from @noaa.gov OISSTv2.1: www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/opt...

"Overall, we are seeing some very odd deal talks that are supposedly a part of ending the war in Ukraine. But in fact, evidence shows these deals are structured (in the most recent case secretly until now) to financially benefit Russia or business partners of the Trump and Witkoff families."

Is there anything that you would recommend normal people do at this moment to improve their internet hygiene? Surý: I would recommend that they rely on experts. That’s what we all do in a crisis: We talk to experts + trust them. Rely on that people who take care of this stuff know what they're doing

Update...it's not just Canada 🤦‍♂️ As a cost-cutting measure, NWS has removed ALL international observations (outside of US buoys) from its site. A shame that such a simple and helpful tool had to be removed due to the Trump administration's anti-science budget cuts.

Matthew Pfab@matthewpfabwx.bsky.social

Donald Trump is so petty that his administration has removed Canadian observations from the NWS map. This is what happens when the president has an ego of a toddler. Anyone care to explain how this is helpful at all? I’ll wait…

You hear all the time about how our society is too intimately tied to fossil fuels to easily do away with them. What you don't hear about so often is how the fossil-fuel industry deliberately planted that idea in our heads decades ago. Great piece from @grist.org grist.org/culture/hidd...
