Thousands in NH are seeing cuts to their SNAP benefits starting this month–all so that Republicans could give tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations in their so-called Big, Beautiful Bill. This means kids won't get school lunches and working families won't be able to put food on the table.

The insurgent left is prioritizing party infighting over Donald Trump’s threats to democracy, putting some winnable contests at risk, @davidfrum.bsky.social argues:

"Unlike the coercive empire of the Soviets, American statesmen pulled off the astounding accomplishment of attracting allies and trade partners in a consensual manner." This is what people like Elbridge Colby want to rip up.

And, again, focusing completely on Trump is like thinking Ronald McDonald actually runs McDonald's. The apparatus behind MAGA is funded and directed by the wealth and oligarchical classes and they are relentlessly not just stealing but positioning things for the world they want to run.

He has no alpha qualities and is intrinsically one of the weakest individuals I have ever observed. Not smart, not prudent and has no self-discipline. Never physically strong or fit. His only power over anyone is that he was born into wealth and kept it through crime and thuggery.

I took a crack a trying to capture the chaos of the moment in scientific research—generational change in what happens and how practitioners feel about it, the end of a decades-long program to orient science only toward "productivity," product, and capital. www.scientificamerican.com/article/amer...

scientificamerican.comAmerica’s compact between science and politics is broken, and we’re all going to payHow did we get here?

Mike Johnson is a drum that echoes only those tones emanating from oligarchs The idea that Social Security and Medicaid A shortfalls are due to "automatic" entitlement spending is like saying you can't afford food because your credit card is on auto-pay. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

washingtonpost.comSocial Security shortfall expected to accelerate, with funds at critical low in 2032The shortfall will be driven in part by a drop in immigration and Trump’s tax cuts, trustees say, resulting in trimmed benefits.

The problem isn't the credit card, it is the $200 cable bill you've been paying but don't want to give up. In other words, look at Defense spending and rich people's entitlements, i.e. tax cuts. Social spending is being crowded out by Defense and interest payments. The right choice here is obvious.

There are many in the fallen world of American politics who are more mendacious, more corrupt, more self-aggrandizing. But no one -- and I mean no one -- is as empty, soulless and craven as this man.

RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged? MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.

Three years ago tomorrow, I very nervously gave this speech. I knew my career as a TV journalist was dunzo, cooked, filleted, kaput the morning I wrote it. (Thanks to Kat insisting I go for it anyway.) The end is awfully prescient at this exact second, though. Big ups to Scott Pelley for fighting.

@ninahenkens.bsky.social I know this comes out of the blue, but I am an African-American considering relocating to Holland. I have plenty of family there who are supportive, but none who might speak to the challenges I might face due to my race. Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated!

At any rate, my relatives don’t feel poor. Neither did Europe feel poor as I rode trains between cities and shopped with my kids. I think anyone who is familiar with quality of life metrics knows that this feeling of being “poor” is well buffered by other factors like social stability.

This struck me: “[Europe] lacks American-style productivity growth capable of creating tech companies and billionaires in Europe.” Not strictly true, I think. It lacks those parts of American “productivity growth” that produces tech companies at scale.

In part because it is still many countries and not a single one. Having worked for a European tech company and people across both continents, I’ve seen the innovation there, which produces many start-ups that become small- to medium-sized companies.

I’m growing tired of all the “this is counter to established norms…” and “no POTUS has ever…” Congress has the power to stop, or at least moderate, most of the shady moves Trump makes. We have a congressional power problem as much as we have an execute power one. www.npr.org/2026/03/17/n...

npr.orgHow Trump's Treasury is shifting sanctions to punish his critics and reward friendsSpain's Prime Minister called U.S. strikes against Iran "unjustified." When other foreigners in power have used similar language against the U.S. or Israel, they were sanctioned by the Treasury.

(2/2) Seems to me the obvious solution to higher prices in the US is a system where we don't pay so much more for drugs, plus targeted policies to maintain our lead in drug development, not blaming Europeans for our shitty system.

This guy is the first person who we should be giving citizenship to. He’s been educating our kids for 20 odd years. The plan here is to make people suspect that even the most upstanding members of their community are suspect. Anyone can be one of the “dangerous immigrants” It’s evil.
