1. The midterms are in eight days, and the story of the election is probably going to be about Hispanic voters. They moved toward Donald Trump in record numbers in 2024. They are now swinging back to the Democrats.

Sadly, if this allegation is true, it wouldn’t be the first time Donald Trump was found to have raped a woman “the jury’s finding that Mr Trump ‘sexually abused’ Ms Carroll implicitly determined that he forcibly penetrated her digitally-in other words, that Mr Trump in fact did rape Ms Carroll”

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

Judiciary Dems report: “Above all, the actual evidence we have seen—as shared in the accounts and stories of 11 women, each described below—indicates that Trump abused, assaulted, and even raped numerous women alongside, and in coordination with, the most infamous sex trafficker in history.”

“Taken together, the evidence provided by the stories of these 11 women, and the documentary evidence that supports and corroborates their stories, indisputably meets and surpasses FBI’s standard for opening a full investigation: that “activity constituting a federal crime … may have occurred.”

“The accounts of these parties are chilling. Former teen model Tina Davis said in an interview that in ‘94, when she was 14, her booker instructed her to “dress sexy” and attend a Mar-a-Lago party, where young, underage girls were plied with alcohol.”

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

BREAKING WaPo: Brazil's right-wing Flávio Bolsonaro just effectively conceded defeat to the incumbent left-wing president — minutes after Trump indicated he would not intervene on his behalf.

It's not that Donald Trump wants to get rid of a few bad apples. It's that he wants to get rid of all apples. The apples have clearly heard the message. And they are now making choices.

I guess I should explain how these things work given there's so much ignorance.

That’s great news. Now, when are the indictments coming? Who gets to do the arresting? Which jail will Toddy and Pigolini be held in? Where will the trials be held? Do the victims get to testify?

What we’re seeing here is fascism: the religious devotion of the lynch mob, the “old time religion” of enslavers, & the white piety of the Jim Crow state. It won’t go away on its own, but at minimum we can stop subsidizing this extremist ideology & begin to build bonds of genuine community.

The speed with which so many execs cozied up to this authoritarian says more about their revealed preferences than long term strategic thinking. They saw a chance for what they saw as a "business friendly" autocrat and oligarchic consolidation and jumped at it.

Anothe layer of complexity is that UUism is a covenental religion, not creedal. That means the congregation is the source of all authority, spiritual, political, institutional. That is a beautiful belief but if there is no God, there's only us, and people *feel* that absence when they enter.

One last thing for now: I will defend UUism against anyone who believes that it's a cult or that it's not a religion. It is a religion, full stop, as valid as any other. My criticism comes from a place of love, not animosity.

In many ways, it's a familiar story. An institution fails to live up to its own professed standards. But in other ways, it's unique. Unitarian Universalists believe they are aware of how institutions fails to live up to their own standards. It's like a double paradox.

My own view: UUism in practice often does not make room for people with "traditional" views of God. By "traditional," I do not mean conservative. I mean merely a belief in God, an awareness, a feeling. Newcomers feel that right away when they enter a UU church. Some stay. Most don't.

🇺🇸 🗳️ Republicans face Latino backlash ahead of midterms For nearly two years, US President Donald Trump's heavy-handed deportation drive has sowed fear in immigrant communities. Now, with midterm elections looming, many Latino voters who helped propel Trump to power in 2024 say they are fed up.

AP: “Our nation is doing better now than ever before,” Trump insists while campaigning, vowing that interest rates and oil prices will plunge once the war with Iran — which he started — comes to an end. apnews.com/article/trum...

apnews.comTrump failed to stop inflation. Now Republicans may pay the price in the midterm electionsOne week before midterm elections, President Donald Trump is struggling to deliver on his promise to bring down costs.

“over the past decade, negative views of the Democratic Party have been on the rise among Latino voters, according to the NBC/Telemundo poll, though they leveled off in recent years.” They are hearing rightwingers propaganda.

Let’s do this in America.

The point of the twisted American version of Christianity is for hateful bigots to shield themselves from criticism while using it to spread their hate and bigotry. “It’s not me - this is what it says in the Bible.” Talarico has a few words of correction to say about that. 🧵

1. I'm late to this, but there's still time for a word on James Talarico's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's show. It's important, because I don't think most people on the left appreciate how threatening he is.
