“Todd Litman, explains that many transportation officials are hesitant — likely for political reasons — to acknowledge that cars are the only common denominator in all car crashes, and prefer to focus on stamping out extra-dangerous “outlier” driving behaviors instead.”

Just out of frame of this lifted monstrosity are dozens of children playing in a public space. A grown man is cutting through a plaza just to peacock, yet the biggest safety panic in our city right now is about e-bikes.

This is why we fight so hard for lower speeds. Kids will be kids, cars are too large and hard to see around, and frankly our streets suck. We hate seeing these stories. But travelling at 20km/h, the child escaped with minor injuries. At 50km/h we'd be writing a completely different post.

Last night, Escambia’s School Board voted without Board comment to remove hundreds of titles on the state’s list despite a lack of local objections to many titles and without any opportunity for community review. Here’s a portion of the comment given on the removal of “The Devil’s Arithmetic.”

Today, while protecting Palestinians, Brad Lander & a group of American rabbis & others were taken by the IDF. Releasing Brad isn't enough, the Israeli govt must release them all.   If this is how they treat Americans, imagine how they treat Palestinians. Trump & Rubio's silence fuels this impunity.

Between 2021 and 2025, around 2 million cyclists passed the floating bus stops on Leith Street, Edinburgh, and around 5 million bus passengers boarded or alighted here. No injuries have been recorded. Over the same period, drivers injured around 600 Edinburgh pedestrians, killing 16.

If your downtown still has many wide and fast one-way streets, then your priority is to move cars as fast as possible thru a weak downtown. It’s NOT to create a vibrant downtown, help downtown retailers, keep people safe, support walkability and accessibility, reduce pollution, etc. #TrafficSewers

THE SENATE IS WITHIN REACH — and Democrats just hit a NEW HIGH in Nate Silver’s model. Dems are leading or within striking distance in the states that will decide control. Even a 2-point polling miss could still give Dems a 52–48 Senate majority. No complacency. No excuses. Flood the polls. VOTE.

By terminating research grants like Kelton's to censor views it doesn’t like, the NIH is blocking scientists from work that would advance public health for all of us. We're pushing back. Tell Congress to demand the NIH restore the grants and stop its censorship campaign at aclu.org/nih_censorship_

Amazing research by @reuters.com and the graphics really illustrate the scale of the change.

Heat storms, massive heat waves covering at least 1% of the globe for five consecutive days, have become increasingly frequent and severe. These storms were rare in the 1960s, but now average 102 events per year, causing widespread heat-related deaths, wildfires, and droughts.

absolutely hate framing like this it's not a blow to "climate campaigners" in the way that a loss by a football team is a blow to their fans it's a blow to everyone who relies on a stable climate, breathable air and drinkable water climate chaos is a physical fact, it's not an issue of opinion

Unless judges are going to start throwing people in jail, there's basically no reason to think this regime will listen to them much longer. They themselves have already clearly begun to figure out that they probably don't have to.

Write your senators about this. I did. They need to vote no on BAAJA.

The "permitting reform" debate is about *much* more than energy. One of many cases in point: the Senate bill doubles the length of Clean Water Act discharge permits for industry, sewage treatment plants and other polluters from five to 10 years. That's a problem. legal-planet.org/2026/10/10/u...

Will any reporter ask the President of the United States to name the five specific states where he alleges that public school teachers are deciding -- all on their own initiative, over the objections of the parents -- to force their children into gender-affirming surgeries? Seems like a big story?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We have 5 states where your child goes off to school as Tim and comes back as Tammy 3 or 4 days later. It's true. And teachers make a decision. 'Goodbye Timmy I love you so much, I'll see you later.' And you say, 'Where's my son? My son is in the hospital.' Can you imagine?"

Decades ago they joked that there was no more dangerous place to stand in Washington DC than right between Chuck Schumer and a TV camera. But for some reason this schmuck can’t work up a press release for a Democratic member of Congress being persecuted by the president.

Chuck Schumer — one of the most powerful Democrats in the country — has not issued statements to the press or through his social media channels about the administration’s attack on Ilhan Omar, which critics have described as a five alarm fire for the state of democracy in the U.S.
