I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.

The US #military appears to be weaponising #ClimateChange impacts, in this case increased flooding associated with the greatly amplified #ElNiño, to 'cleanse' areas of #Somalia held by the al-Shabaab jihadist quasi-state. This is a war crime and a crime against humanity.

“Let the market sort it though the people of the metropole starve” is a great policy. Worked in 43 BCE, 1847 CE and I’m sure it’ll work in Year Zero of whatever the fuck this is about to be.

Tennessee farmer's fuel bill was $20,000 for just 2 weeks: "I wish they could see what it costs us to plant a crop and what we are getting paid... A farmer doesn't like a handout. He would rather have a fair market."

“Neurodivergents are too early with their warnings and that’s the problem” is often portrayed as the intellectual interpretation of why normies go into overshoot and mass collapse. “Normies are too slow and too dumb to realise what’s happening” is never portrayed as the problem. Chop chop normies.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

It is ok to decide that—in the middle of constitutional crisis—that the job of social media is not persuasion, but organization and organization. It is also ok to decide that listening and persuasion does not have to involve violence and abuse. You know why trolls hide under bridges, right?

How can one make sense of this? It's a question I'm struggling with. On Sep 29, an underaged driver on a two-wheeler hit my dad while he was crossing the road in my hometown Nashik in India. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and entered a comma within minutes.

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

Indeed, who could have known ahead of time that accepting the invite to the Trump White House for a photo-op by a Daily Signal writer who's a senior advisor to the president of Heritage Foundation, 2 wks before midterms when Catholic support is cratering would seem 'political'?

At one point he had a Whatsapp group with 10 million people in it, coordinating action. Which I didn't even think whatsapp was infrastructurally designed to support. And yes, whatsapp is of course a meta network, but the strategy was to be everywhere, to act redundantly, to be unbannable.

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

What is true is that this was a conflict—and make no mistake, this was a conflict; this was a protracted battle in a hybrid war, more than anything—that was largely fought by large numbers of people laboriously working to unfuck the nation's informational environment.

The UK gov was able to approve #Jackdaw because UK targets are woefully outdated. The current ‘Carbon Budget’ was set 15 years ago back when 2°C of warming was considered ‘safe’. It wasn’t tightened as the threat picture worsened due to concerns about public acceptance.
