"The Bay Area does 1.3% of America's driving but pays 5.2% of the income taxes now bailing out America's highways"

Cyrus Hall@cyrushall.bsky.social

America's Highway Trust Fund spends far more than it brings in in gas and truck taxes, and the US constantly bails the fund out from the federal general fund and by taking out loans. The Bay Area will pay ~$1.3B/year to bail out the fund yet again, starting in 2028. From @maxmautner.com.

BART and Muni are both facing deficits of over $300 million, and if we don't fund our public transit, both are facing severe service cuts. Vote YES on the Regional Transit Measure to keep our public transit running.

This is a photo of our home planet taken only a few hours ago! So what? We have photos of Earth taken from space every day. Ah, but *this* photo was taken by a spacecraft ON ITS WAY TO JUPITER.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

At the Antimatter Factory at CERN there are vacuum cleaners in cages. Those cages are there because when you vacuum the experiment hall, you might pick up some radioactive material, and so the vacuum has to be in a time out until enough half-lives of the contaminant have elapsed.

Today an automated system at work cut me a ticket because a VM my team doesn't own needs a kernel update, and the only reason it decided it was my job to do is because I was the last person to log into it 😭 Anyways I can't log into it anymore xD
