I tend to think intelligence is a landscape. Each of us have a few peaks and, well, the rest. Regardless, IQ as a single number has always been a lie.

My wife and I built a thing for my daughter’s 29th birthday. It came out pretty good I think.

A friend told me young children aren’t hard to understand. You just take their age, subtract it from ten, and pretend that’s how many hits of acid they’re on. Miss ya, buddy

Recently reminded life is precious, and so maybe I should skip ahead and do the fun art project I’ve been saving for later.

The MLM model in reverse: exponential help

Dr. Jenny Morber@jrmorber.bsky.social

I had dinner with a friend recently who had an idea I really like: using the MLM model for voting. You identify say 10 people who you will support to vote: you make sure they have resources, childcare, drive them to the polls if they need it, and ask each of them to help another 10.

That's funny, ESCAPE ESCAPE are the exact words that come to mind when I think about working there.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

I think another lesson to take from the loss of both Dolly and Tim Curry is that neither of them took themselves seriously but they took the work dead serious that's the most important thing pour all of yourself into the craft but have fun and don't get an ego.

“Equipped with an 18-meter reflector, the Eye of Sauron-1 could illuminate areas 5 to 6 kilometers in diameter for brief periods.”

I’m sure there will be no horrifying consequences as a result of the Trump regime authorizing the launch of ominously Tolkien-named satellites capable of illuminating 5 to 6 kilometer-wide swaths of the earth at night: www.wired.com/story/reflec...

Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Prize after wake up call: newspapers mistakenly published his obituary when his brother died & what he read as his legacy horrified him speaking ill (factually) of the dead is literally the most effective way to curb living racist & Nazi public figures/politicians

If we’d speak more ill of the dead, maybe it would remind the living not to be assholes.

Early summertime views from the garden. It’s nice when Nature puts on a show. Even the bunny agrees. #bloomscrolling

I took on a task knowing full well it was a yak-shaving expedition but the joke’s on me, the yak was pregnant.

Past-me snuck a Sichuan peppercorn into the grinder when refilling it. Today I’m the big pwithe winner.

Nothing remains the same from one moment to the next, you can’t step into the same river twice. Life – evolution – the whole universe of space/time, matter/energy – existence itself – is essentially change.

Sometimes researching this book brings me the grimmest moments of the Cold War and sometimes it brings me a telegram from Gypsy Rose Lee to ichthyologist Gloria Hollister that reads, "In the interest of science, how would you like to tint my osteological structure, babe".

Turns out, much like how renewable are great for natsec, a good privacy oriented state (the opposite of a police state) is great for natsec

As Iran recently found out, your external enemies absolutely will try to hack all of your surveillance systems intended to control your internal enemies - and often, they’ll succeed.
