Using AI is almost certainly harmful to us cognitively, emotionally, creatively, and socially. We should not use it. We should not normalize it.

Before I transitioned, my boss told me I should speak up more in meetings because I always had really good contributions After I transitioned, my boss told me in my performance review that I needed to be very sure I wasn’t talking over people in meetings and be sure to keep my tone positive

Katelyn Burns@katelynburns.com

When I transitioned, I immediately started getting written up for every little thing. Finally, in a meeting with the regional manager and the branch manager, I pointed out that I had never been written up before transitioning. They said my old boss cut me a break because i "was a sad guy".

I love having a social (network) credit score I can’t see

Aaron Rodericks@aaron.bsky.team

That takes a bunch of work to get there, with the biggest part being accurate detection. Constantly calculating toxicity scores for every quote post, reply, and mention allows you to roll those up to the user level. The worst of the worst we can suspend. The rest though is a bigger question.

That's what I want to hear, rather than "Be reasonable. We're not going to restore all your rights right away, but you have to vote for us bc the other guys will kill you."

I'd like cis Democrats to say "We're in a position to win a lot of ground in this election, and we'd never be in this position if it weren't for the trans community's strength and leadership under pressure."

You know what I'd like? I'd like cis Democrats to say "thank you." "Thank you for being the moral center of our movement." "Thank you for refusing to go quietly." "Thank you for fighting ICE. Thank you for forming coalitions with other communities under threat."

Trans people have fought and suffered and borne the brunt of the depravity of fascist excess (along with immigrants and Black people), and it looks like the most we can hope for is a decade or more fighting Democrats to restore rights we had in every state in the union as recently as 2020.

personally I think we should just take the ai doomers at their word and shut it down if they’re telling the truth, well, good thing we shut it down. If they’re exaggerating, well, they shouldn’t have done that

On the other hand, when Jennicet Gutiérrez asked Obama to end the abuse of trans women in ICE detention and stop all deportations, while at a White House Pride event in 2015, Obama mocked her to her face and she was thrown out and briefly detained.

Obama shouts out "those ordinary people in the Twin Cities who braved frigid temperatures, risked their own safety, standing shoulder to shoulder to look our for their neighbors and sometimes for strangers because they knew that was the right thing to do"

if you believe your body is too precious to throw upon the gears of the apparatus grinding up your neighbors, don't be stepping forward to represent your neighbors to the apparatus. none of us should have to give a shit how scared for themselves they are or aren't. they're welcome to resign.

an under-discussed issue in our politics today is how worried the average democratic lawmaker is about their own/their family's safety, and whether they can trust state/local security

I run a support group for a local trans org. Several of our attendees still present masculine in their daily life despite being transfem, including having dysphoria beards/mustaches. Being trans does not prevent you from having internalized transphobia, or from using it to hurt other trans folks.

Her swimming career was far from exceptional; she did not come close to dominating in the sport, and is famous for a race where she tied 5th and was beaten by 4 other women. 2/2

The 'panic' around Lia Thomas was about creating a target people could point at while demanding exclusion. So much of what people “know” about Lia comes from manufactured outrage and years of misinformation repeated without context. We commissioned this comic to break down the actual story. 1/2

it’s genuinely really funny how once people on this site run out of points to make they just start quote-dunking and posting gifs maybe they should add features people want to use instead of ones they turn to when they’re frustrated

Every trans suicide is a murder.

"The move came after a transgender student who was part of Boise High School’s Sexuality and Gender Alliance died by suicide, and another stopped attending the school, the group’s lawyers wrote in a legal agreement reached Wednesday requesting the case be dismissed."

Time to admit the experiment has failed. If higher ed has any chance of survival in this environment, universities will immediately begin reconsidering the positions of decision makers who felt they knew better than faculty and sold their schools to venture capital.

The college grads in open revolt against pro-AI speakers is a reminder that this isn’t about a failure to adopt technology. These students are the first generation to have had language models throughout their college experience. No one wants it. They want an education, not a four year sales pitch.
