I note that everywhere the right wins now, they push for some mix of wars of aggression, looting and destroying the public realm, impunity for corruption and war crimes, roasting the planet with hydrocarbons, deforestation, destroying public education, ethnic supremacy and McCarthyist crackdowns.

How do you know these people are extremists? Because they cannot be appeased, even as our entire political/media class enforces their demands and repeats their drivel. It makes them not one bit happier, because they don’t want compliance: they want more extreme, forceful and violent measures.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

β€œIsrael is a very racist country, its government routinely commits horrific crimes” was a humdrum opinion, fifteen years ago: never uncontroversial, but well within mainstream though. Now, our whole political/media class believes it is insanely extreme. Who is it that has been radicalised, here?

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

Here’s Chapoman Matt Christman in 2017, after that torchlit fascist rally in Charlottesville. We’re almost ten years later now. Does anything here sound wrong? I would say no, it is not wrong.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

I mean, this is not complex: the death drive is right at the core of fascism, and fascism requires a constant sprint towards more cruelty, destruction and insanity. Any second it is at rest, it is dying. So it must keep getting worse and more extreme www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

Perhaps these lads have said very bad things? Maybe, but they don’t appear to be public figures in any meaningful way. They are just randoms.

Do you notice any tonal differences in the way the lads talk about Reform and the Tories, despite the latter also being very extreme? Do you notice which parties get β€œHow inappropriate” vs β€œNow we must hound these scum until their sickness has been eradicated from politics”.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

it's the most Labour brained response to fascists acting openly on our streets, trans people denied healthcare and basic human dignity, migrants having their lives actively threatened and to just nod along that all that is good and proper & that all we need is a new fine for people being annoying

The Tory leader tried to make a councillor out of a Neo Nazi criminal who had literally been *sent to prison for racist hounding of a Jewish MP*. When she couldn’t do that, she made him an antiracism advisor. That was, what, two months ago.a

This is sociopathic. How cooked are the British media/political class to consider the statement "our country has more living disabled people than soldiers" in any way remarkable, let alone in any way bad? It's literally the kind of thing Nazis would worry about.

Interviewing a govt minister Hazarika shows a graph comparing young people claiming PIP to the size of our armed forces & declares it "tells a story about modern Britain" I can't even make a sarcastic comment about our fearless fourth estate, because Hazarika is a Labour politician

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

Is it racist, though? If the statement is so outrageous, you’d think it would be very simple to rebut. And yet, nobody has tried: they just point and screech like Donald Sutherland in Bodysnatchers, and never address the question. I wonder why nobody wants to do that?

Difficult to explain how utterly disgusting it is that a bunch of nice social workers, teachers and nurses used the democratic system to promote their opposition to extremely racist violence, and they were crushed for it by people who threw Britain’s support behind this, to curry favour with America

We talk about this as racism but it’s important to understand that the term does not mean β€œUsing slurs and making bigoted assumptions” here. It is racism in the 19th century sense of β€œScience, laws and god show these people are inferior, and so we are free to inflict terrible cruelty upon them”.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

I remember saying more than five years ago that it was obviously insane and potentially disastrous to start treating any Palestinian flags and symbols as automatically terrifying racism, and I see the decision was to just insist upon it constantly and fuck the consequences.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

Again, there was almost no public element in this: no organic surge in public opinion to demand it. It was simply imposed upon Britain by the world’s most hateful and poisonous media outlets, by leaning hard on our ever-compliant political leaders, who are always happy to say yes to the tabloids.

What’s happened is that the worse everything gets, and the more despicable and unjustifiable the crimes get, the more and more intensely focused all these important people become on things like one woman with an offensive placard. Because what else have they got? Not much.

The whole thing for almost a decade now has been an incredibly furious one-sided argument, entirely about theoretical things or objects: motions, slogans, signs, symbols, statements, flags, chants, artworks, songs, cartoons, words, you name it. Anything at all *except for* the murder and destruction

Do you note how β€œwe’re going to round up and mass deport a million people” is rarely received with either visceral disgust or screaming, puking fury? How it’s considered instead in terms of its potential appeal to the public.

In addition to this, "people joining a party and voting for it to adopt the positions they support" is not entryism. There is no word for it, because it isn't a separate phenomenon from party democracy, it's just what happens when you let people vote for things.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

I invite you to notice that the Times is yet again targeting individual, named members of the public, a thing they’ve been doing at least since they were naming and β€œexposing” individual black students who wanted to move a statue or change the English lit reading list ten years ago.

There was no shadowy Muslim conspiracy plotting to take over the unsuspecting Green Party. The Party with its existing membership as of Sept 2025 elected Zack Polanski who made it clear that he intended to take the party in a social democratic direction.

As a result, large swathes of socialists and social democrats decided it was the proper vehicle for their politics and recipient of their vote. Pro-Israel greens like the one quoted were happy to take the votes, but didn't want the new members having a say in how the party is run. Too bad.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

I think we do have to acknowledge that the Greens putting their leader up has been disastrous, there. Not for the Greens particularly - I am a bit πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ on that - but for the country, and for Britain as a democratic system. There needed to be serious consequences for the Starmer debacle: there are none.

So: something has changed in 20 years. What is it? It’s that our political/media class has wholesale imported the wildly extreme, very violent crackpot ideology of the American right, and together they have been ruthlessly enforcing it upon the populace.

Peter B πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸŒˆ reposted

Also, the most consequential, astonishing revelation 2016-26 is that the centre-left and the centre-right are largely the same thing; they’re all fully onboard with the manifesto of the National Front in the 70s regarding migration and racism, and they’re all roaring authoritarian wackos re: protest

Phil McDuff@mcduff.bsky.social

This is, of course, simply a rhetorical play act. Suppose that people do "condemn" all these people? Well, you didn't do it enough. Did you contextualise anything? Stop that. Be more unequivocal. Now hop on one leg. I found someone not condemning them - do you condemn them too?
