Ok. So Halloween is pretty much here. Here’s my two cents: there’s probably no better way to get into the mood than getting the horror special issue of The International Player’s Review. Now on sale! While supplies last.

In my book I argue that IP fandoms are a crucial part of the economic model of the current media monopoly landscape, as fan campaigns drive down the value of creative labor via harassment and disposability, scare artists from taking risks with IP, and give execs a direct fan base all their own
I think a lot could be said about how fandoms are very much structured to be consumerist without any critical analysis of capitalist production, and how this is the logical end result of that.
This is why I say I am a descriptor not a predictor. Didn’t see this coming.
And right how as a descriptor I do not have enough caffeine to process.
Live at the time of my posting.
There’s a thing that used to & probably still does happen that when a new album by, like, an Aphex Twin or Boards of Canada was announced, people would start uploading their own tracks in those artists style claiming that they were leaks, often racking up numbers…
And that got me thinking, wouldn’t it be super nice if, over the next few weeks, lots of people took this opportunity to knock together and upload their own “leaked” Necromunda RPG rules
“The algorithm is great at finding me new music in the limited style I listen to,” he writes. “But it is really bad at showing me something new and different. My listening has become homogeneous, even though I can pick any album ever created.”
———
Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before…
Latest from me: on finding fascination, even now, (eg The Wire, Sight & Sound, MOJO) in your town's WH Smith (sorry, "TG Jones"), and the tragedy now unfolding. Result: algorithm culture, the leakage from headphones playing the same things over & over again

I made a little show as an extra for BBC Radio 4 Extra (pretty much in my own time): it’s being repeated to mark 20 years since the death of Nigel Kneale. This sort of bonus (dare I say it Reithian?) content will not be possible once the station goes in March. Enjoy:

Just clearing out the millions of random pics saved on this phone and is this the perfect Mausritter adventure cover art? I think this is the perfect mausritter cover art
I believe @fanterland.itch.io is the writer & Max Philippi (not on here) the artist responsible. Would have as an A1 poster
Anyway, a good day to remember that you’re only ever a google search and couple of clicks away from having a copy of Confrontation to scratch your head over all weekend
*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation

If anyone at GW wants to give us the lowdown about exactly what has happened with the Necromunda RPG then please drop us a line, anonymously or not, willing to meet you in an underground car park or swap briefcases on a park bench somewhere. Let us be the Woodward to your Deep Throat
Excellent way to discover there’s a new Brìghde Chaimbeul LP out. Astonishingly wonderful music to get lost in. I’d very much recommend firing up your streaming service of choice & listening to Tha Fonn Gun Bhi Tro, which should give you a good idea if this is for you (or just watch this video ofc!)
Drones are forever.
Brìghde Chaimbeul's music is where the ancient meets the present. Scottish reels and folk songs in conversation with minimalist techniques, all performed on smallpipes with effects pedals. Shahzad Ismaily joins her at the Tiny Desk, on synths.

might start taxing video game publishers £0.50 for every press release they send us, I reckon after approximately 3 days we'd have enough money to actually own one of the platforms they release games on

Tedious old man opinion but damn I loved models like these or the Warhammer Townsfolk, made the settings feel so much bigger. Been some cool Kill Teams & Blackstone Fortress stuff but always a bit gutted they haven’t done one really weird janky completely non aligned group of bizarro space freaks

As conversations regarding the future of the Osprey Games board and card game line continue, we've provided a statement on where things currently stand. We're grateful to our team, creative partners and community for their continued support during this time.
UK-based Osprey Games has let go of its entire board and card game development team and cancelled its booth at the upcoming Spiel Essen game fair - five months after parent company Bloomsbury began searching for a buyer for the operation:
