Hello there, my name is Darren Calvert and I'm a design teacher and freelance illustrator from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I try to focus on art and things I like but occasionally go off on a bit of a rant. You can find me on Instagram shorturl.at/pBhFv Prints or original art: shorturl.at/orzm8

Turned the screensaver on on my computer and sat there entranced by it for a solid couple of minutes. It’s time for bed.

I only brought Biddy Blas up… twice in my classes today 😌

They should decide the Ballon d'Or by making people play soccer with a solid gold ball.

That is one of the pieces I bring up when people ask me "How long do markers last?" because I basically killed off that green marker making one 6" x 6" square of solid ink.

I also have markers that are still working after 15+ years so... somewhere between those two things.

Ah yes, communist leader Mark Carney.😐

I mean… OF COURSE HE WAS. Do Republicans care is the real question.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

R.I.P. to Eric Bauza Out of all the actors who voiced the rabbit, you were the one who came the closest to Mel's original voice. You should've been around for 40 more years to voice him.

cnbc.comAfter SpaceX restores high-speed service, Musk claims Ukraine violated Starlink agreementUkraine says restrictions on Starlink and Starshield have been lifted, restoring connectivity to fast-moving military systems after disruptions.

Yeah, let's pretend this was purely a terms of service issue and not an ideological one. 😐

Lora Kolodny@lorak.bsky.social

Musk said he restricted Starlink in Ukraine- causing fast moving drones to lose connectivity - and that he had every right to do so because of some terms of service or contract that he didn't show us. (He didn't address suddenly doing this with no warning to Kyiv.) www.cnbc.com/2026/10/24/u...

Also the whole "Did Musk do this or did the White House do this?" debate is moot because the answer is "Both".

I get these surprised chuckles from people in my Drawing for Illustration classes whenever I make a reference to an anime/video game/genre show they know. Did you people think I was *pretending* to be a nerd???

They're doing a project right now where they get to pick an existing story and adapt it into a sequence of 4 illustrations and I don't think any of them chose something I wasn't at least somewhat familiar with.
