for ppl looking at my profile for what i said about how my brain works, it presents Noticeably Enough that my boss shared this new yorker article with me because the descriptions reminded her of me. i hadnt told her anything about how i don't have a visual memory/thought process she just Noticed It.

The American people voted to let daddy hit mommy so they could have candy for breakfast despite him going a little silly in the head. They figured mommy could clean up whatever mess daddy made. Now mommy’s brains are splattered against the wall and daddy pissed in their candy bowl.

The Emperor not only has no clothes, he’s running around pelvic thrusting and throwing his poo like a chimp and we’re all supposed to solemnly nod our heads and say this is simply the voice of the common man rebelling against the libs. Which is true, but we should get to say it with a sneer.

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

a somewhat underrated long term impact of trump is that a sizeable portion of people have never been politically active in a non-trump world. I have never cast a ballot in a presidential election that didn't have his name on it and I'm almost 30. He's politics to a huge chunk of people.

Wisconsin is one of two states I've lived in whose insularity leads to the kind of evolutionary cultural craziness you find in animals in the Galapagos or language in isolated settlements. This is what hath been wrought in the name of sausage

According to a YouGov/UMass Lowell poll released today, 58% of people would support a law banning online or app-based sports gambling and prediction markets (Kalshi/Polymarket was a listed example).

lol. RAGBRAI has over 20,000 bike riders peddling 400 miles every year—and it is one of the biggest events in the entire state bringing in millions in tourism and economic stimulus to small towns. Also, we have 11 bikes. 🚲 We ride bikes in Iowa, sir.

Sadly, another harvest in Masafer Yatta was not. Settlers attacked Palestinian farmers — but the IDF arrested two of the farmers, and evicted the others from their own land, after declaring it a closed military zone. Sound familiar? It’s happening every single day.

At the same time as the Chi Phi incident, another frat was calling in favors to get the Cornell police department to look the other way on various allegations. Incredible details here from a Cornell Sun alum, including some damning allegations of favoritism from Cornell VP of Student Life Lombardi.

This year, federal agents terrorized our streets, killed our neighbors, and detained our children. Minnesotans were changed forever. Michele Tafoya thinks ICE treats kids “really well.” I think ICE should be ripped apart and replaced by a system grounded in dignity and due process.

There's a Politico (lol) piece entirely about how Republicans' hope right now is that the polls are all way off and they only get a MILD wipeout and first of all it's full of a bunch of nonsense but the best part is how it ends on this incredible bit:

I worked with a fraternity at the University of Maryland after something like this. The men “came back” feeling righteous in avenging their collective punishment—and also, more valued by their school than ever. You can imagine how hostile that became for women on campus.

If you wanted to run an experiment to see the effect of banning frats, I think you’d want it to run for ~5+ years to have whole cohorts that never experienced the frat system and to allow time for alternatives to develop. Hopeful that this is the start of such an experiment, but not counting on it.

We’ve seen schools do this before. If this one-year party suspension doesn’t turn into a permanent ban, then it’s just a message to fraternities that they have true impunity. That even the worst, most violent behavior will result in a temporary slap on the wrist.
