People Magazine has announced its annual Sexiest Man o’ War. Same winner as every year. Honestly, I don’t know why they keep doing this. Pretty hot though, I must admit.

I think Jon would be a welcome addition to our sleepytime deadpan comedy weirdo program and my first favorite Mariner was Bruce Bochte. Look at him, he's terrified.

We think @jonbois.bsky.social would be a great guest on our show. We intend to email him but the easiest thing would be if we just posted it here and he said yeah okay. Then we wouldn't have to work so hard. Jon, would you like to be a guest on our show? Our host is a Mariner fan since 1977.

I could reply to that work email a day later than I should have. It would take 10 seconds. But how about this. Got a little proposal for you. WHAT IF I spent five days beating myself up over not replying in a timely manner and THEN took ten seconds to reply? Huh?!?! #FreeMBA

I’ve always been opposed to substance abuse but to each their own.

It’s autumn in Minnesota with the beautiful leaves and nice sweater weather temperatures. I love it. Summer is fantastic here too, just one big outdoor party. Spring is great, trees bursting into bloom. Welp, guess that’s all of them.

My dad used to say spring was his favorite season because it means summer is just around the corner. “Well then doesn’t that mean summer is actually your favorite?” I asked. No, he said, because by then it is practically fall. This is called a Norwegian sense of humor.

Two things can be true at the same time. You can be completely saturated with information on political candidates in races many hundreds of miles away from you AND have no idea who the fuck all these people are running for school board in your own city.

Today I interviewed Kate Flannery from The Office. I asked if she's on a street with steady foot and car traffic, how many times in an hour will a stranger shout "Meredith!" at her. Depends on how fast the cars are moving and whether she has a hat on but generally: a lot of times. Good to know.

Now I’m wondering if Eddie is a secret sports phenom, because we had a pastor who coached his kid’s soccer team a few years ago, and they got destroyed by Eddie’s kid’s team (Eddie was their coach)

I love “Hunger Strike” wholly and unironically but I really don’t know why they placed Eddie in grass taller than he was. Acoustics? He’s a very good sport about it.

Unrelated but my friend Sam got into a friendly 1-on-1 basketball game against Eddie at a gym in Seattle once. Says he was really nice, introduced himself simply as “Ed”, and just lit Sam the fuck up. Pouring down shots from all over, clean but dominant defense. Owned Sam so much Sam just laughed.

I worked with Sam at the time and he came into the office and said, “I got fucking killed by Eddie Vedder last night at the gym.” Mind you, Eddie is 5’7”.

I think it’s sweet that after all these years none of us have told Bruce Springsteen that Atlantic City isn’t even in Nebraska. He doesn’t need to know. He would be so embarrassed. Shh.

My dad has been gone a long time but if there’s one thing I wish I could ask him to expand on it would be his love of Kafka’s The Trial and his belief that it was hilarious. I feel like knowing more about that would unlock him. Ask your parents about their weird shit before it’s too late.

I live in MN where the Senate race is between the current Lt. Gov. with lots of government/policy experience and a former NFL broadcaster with none. The GOP alone keeps nominating people like that for Senate. I'm legit curious why. Is it just because Trump won? Non-heated/shouty answers welcome.

I've always thought of Sean Penn as the Democratic version of Trump but I can't imagine anyone I know voting for him for anything. I'm trying to envision other candidacies. Susan Sarandon? Tim Robbins? Alan Alda is great but I can't see him getting elected.

Ngl, @johnmoe.bsky.social, today's Depresh Mode was like a slug to the chest - but in a good way. I'd never realized how much I was grieving the things I'd lost - or never had - until that context you and Megan Devine provided. Lotta thinking to do now. And I'M glad YOU'RE here.

Charlie (fka Kenny Rogers) has a favorite chair in his new house. Also likes to hop up on the humans’ bed at night, not to sleep, just to stare at them. They’re choosing to see this as progress and not spookiness.

Thank you all for your supportive comments regarding Kenny Rogers. I’ll admit, there were times when I thought about letting another foster family take a turn, which *would’ve been okay*. But then I remembered BlueSky loves him so FINE, I’ll stick it out a while longer.

We’ve had other foster dogs that were easier to love, like Teenie Weenie and The Professor, but Kenny Rogers probably needed us more than any of them.

Had a dead battery and the AAA guy asked what I did for work. Forgot to say potato scientist and told him the truth (mental health podcaster and writer). We talked for a while, he opened up about friends lost to suicide and subscribed to my show. So that was okay too.

When asked what I do for work by a doctor, airplane seatmate, whoever’s making chit-chat, I tell them the truth: writer and podcaster. But then we get into subject matter and it’s a whole thing with too much to explain. I’m going to start saying Freelance Potato Scientist.

(staring at enormous New York studio festooned with ornate gold fixtures) “It’s like if Saddam opened Warhol’s factory.”

Sure, I demand a lot from my students. More than they are capable of. And maybe I yell at them. A LOT. Do I teach them what’s in the lesson plan? Rarely. Will my class help them in the future? Ha. Of course not. But that’s why they call me The Worst Teacher Anyone’s Ever Seen.

Everyone’s fixated on the Cheesecake Factory part and ignoring the Saddam Hussein part. It wasn’t just a gag about Cheesecake Factory. The joke is all about the absurd pairing to illustrate the ridiculousness of the target.

Imagine never having heard *of* Soundgarden and your first exposure is them playing live 15 feet in front of you in 1989. I lived that. (Nirvana was supposed to open but the college’s student government wouldn’t pay them their requested $500.)

Loud Love/Hands All Over were the anti-Warrant. Heavier than God.

Podcast listener said I was a "Charlie Rose level interviewer without the problematic issues." I'll take that one. Put it in my pocket.
