I haven't done nearly as much game design work recently, because I have been working on becoming a game publisher! Starting with a co-design of mine that I really believe in, but hoping to move beyond that if it goes well πŸ˜€ Please come along on this journey with me - we all need good diversions!

Necessary Diversion Games@necessarydiversion.bsky.social

I am pleased to announce that Necessary Diversion Games' first offering will be 'Snacksquatch' where adventurous kids use sugary sweets to catch cryptid kids! A face-down bidding game where giving too much sugar to a monster will get the highest bidder swatted away. Here's a preview of kid Nessie!

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Also someone publish my A Memory Called Empire board game

all this said the best thing that could be done for a "new Mass Effect" is to make a science fiction epic RPG that's built on the SF of the last 20 years the way ME was built on the SF of the 20 years before it

This is a very simple way to send the party a clear message - loss of rights for some is loss of rights for all. Positioning yourself as 'maybe slightly less genocidal' is morally bankrupt and needs to become electoral poison

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

Jingles for board games were of course a function of tv advertising aimed at kids, but the thing people sometimes don't realize is the degree to which game design itself - and the trend of 3D plastic toy games - was dictated by the needs of TV advertising & shelf space.

Tagged along to my spouse's book club because they were doing Legends and Lattes and it was one I had always wanted to try (review: it's a fun examination of impostor syndrome and reinventing yourself). Talked said book club into 'This is How You Lose the Time War' and 'The Incandescent' next

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

"What was name of that publisher again? "Don't Nod" "I ain't gonna nod till you tell me the name" "Don't Nod" "I AIN'T NODDING. OK fine you went tell me the publisher name. But what was the name of that big series they had?" "Life is Strange?" "YOU'RE TELLIN' ME!"

ABBOTT: Japanese developers today have unique names, like FromSoftware COSTELLO: From what ABBOTT: FromSoftware COSTELLO: I thought you said it was from Japan ABBOTT: It is COSTELLO: But what's the name of the developer ABBOTT: FromSoftware COSTELLO: The Software's From Japan, though ABBOTT: Yes

The quality, selection, and diversity of all types of media have improved by a staggering amount. Books, games, video, music - there's so much and better chances than ever to find something that speaks to you, by someone you can identify with. The economics behind it are a wreck of course...

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

More free zippy comebacks: "Back in my day, when you wanted to bully a marginalized kid, you did it yourself, you didn't whine to the government to do it for you" "Sorry what was the question again? I couldn't hear over the hum of the data centers and the economy collapsing"

Steven Vesci@vescis.bsky.social

Free zippy comebacks for Democratic candidates when a reporter or moderator asks about Trans kids in sports: "I'm sorry, I'm confused, am I running to be a senator or an Athletic Director?" "You're asking me if I want every gym teacher in the state to start checking kid's genitals?"

I tested Good Kitties years ago and am excited to see its final form! Haven't played SuperChonk but I have full confidence in @emilykeepskitties.bsky.social and @tonytran.bsky.social so check these out!

I'm so excited to announce that we just launched Good Kitties and Super Chonk on Kickstarter! Thanks to all the people who've supported me or these games over the past 4 years! Now LET'S GOOOOOOOO 😻 www.kickstarter.com/projects/pin...

I don't know how big the Umamusume weeb demographic is, but I hope they get out and vote

Jesus Christ: Japanese horse girls have to cancel their two-day concert in Los Angeles because the Trump administration repeatedly refused to issue visas for performers to enter the U.S. I personally would not piss off the anime demographic two weeks before Election Day: umamusume.com/news/100113/

Played Alice is Missing by @huntersent.bsky.social tonight, a game about a school social circle freaking out in a group chat over a friend who's vanished. Almost no mechanics, just world and relationship building via text message with a timed series of prompts to move the story and supply hooks

Very unique experience. Need to teach my daughter the concept of 'yes and' a bit better. Most memorable bit from our session - everyone started calling my character Charles 'Chuck' and I decided he hated it. Alice spoke late in the game and she immediately referred to him as Chuck with no prompt

Dunno if this is now common in small rural towns, but the businesses of Logan, OH are ALL IN on gen AI advertisements and flyers. Everything from the FroYo joint to Walmart absolutely covered in literally the same uncanny font/ layout ads

I do not know how Collins doesn't even pretend to react to this. Ossoff: "Dude is a Jim Crow racist" Collins: (takes notes)

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

jesus christ i have never heard a democratic talk this bluntly about an opponent

I had a similar takeaway. My father asked me as I took these classes off the knowledge would help me advise him on 'beating the stock market'. I told him I was now fully qualified to tell him it wasn't possible. Stocks are worth whatever rich people say they are. Rich people's algorithms now.

When i was in business school, one class I struggled to fully comprehend was finance, because equity pricing always just seemed like made up bullshit. Stories like this are part of the reason why I still think I was right and the professor was wrong.

Just saw Dreamworks' "Forgotten Island" - animation was absolutely amazing. Story was solid but could have used a few moments to breathe here and there and maybe one less wacky sidekick. But overall a much stronger and far more interesting offering than the too-cautious stuff Disney has been doing.

If nothing else, come so you can go through the whole movie thinking, ok, it's a Filipino story, so who is Lea Salonga playing? Answer: she's the demon vampire monster

-Play game you are really excited about πŸ˜€ - made by people you respect πŸ˜€ - cool vibes and art style πŸ˜€ - highly rated πŸ˜€ - really, really don't like the game 😭

Update: they won a game! (Not the one the original post referred to, that was a blowout. But still!)

About to go watch my daughter's soccer team lose again, and I couldn't be prouder. We live in an exceedingly small school district and the fact that they are even fielding a team is a minor miracle. She and her friends had to convince girls who hadn't played in their lives to step up and they did
