this year's midterm elections are the most important elections in american history. that's because they're currently happening, and other elections in american history are not currently happening, and things that are happening are more important than than things that aren't happening

Can’t wait to vibe code my own BioWare clones and play them on the $40,000 game consoles of the future

I didn’t know that scene where Gandalf read all those books took place in the Santa Barbara County Courthouse

why did excel esports do a portal 3 when valve can't????? anyway round 4 down. Round 5 imminent. it's unlikely I made it through rounds 3 and 4 but I'll only know a few hours from now when scores are released, so full steam ahead for round 5

the excel esports org is trying to set a world record today. you can join for free if you want! They designed an easy case that should take about 5 minutes to complete, but there's no time limit as long as you participate today. excel-esports.com/world-record/

actually They Might Be Giants aren't a comedy band. you see the singers for comedy bands all have chemistry teacher voice, but they might be Giants combines both Math teacher voice and AP US History teacher voice

Round two was extremely weird! I thought I was going to do terribly but I made a bit more progress than I'd worried I might. Not sure when scores will be posted so we'll have to see how I measured up.

I made it through to round 3! It's a double elimination and I lost in Round 1 then won in round 2.

oof. should have done better on round one. I was like a minute away from solving a level and I ran out of time. it's my own fault for misreading the question, twice. On to round two

There’s a clip a few weeks old of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang talking about how it’s not worth kids bothering to learn how to do long division anymore. is it just me or does that make anyone else feel like “damn I gotta get into long division. I wonder if I can find more excuses to do long division”.

There’s nothing inherently good or virtuous about long division. It’s just the fact that these sons of bitches want us to believe it’s not worth bothering to do it just makes me want to do it

this mysterious image has been on my phone since february. I remember thinking this but I do not remember making it

thinking I might try and get a job as a data center. I'm well qualified. I drink a lot of water and the average american citizen does not want me in or near their community

"Computer pictures? You sit in Paris and talk of computer pictures?"

The BBC's new director general has described a 50-minute AI-generated episode of Doctor Who as "pretty good," and suggested that the technology now enabled the creation of content "at the standard of a Hollywood studio." https://bit.ly/4rD8rmh

It's kind of pointless to draw hard lines against "AI" because "AI" is a marketing term and not a real thing, what counts as "AI" changes day to day, and companies try to make "AI" features unavoidable. But if the people making Doctor Who tout "AI" as a major part of their process, I'll be out.

I will happily sit through even the most dogshit episodes of Doctor Who made by human beings, and have done so often. Complaining about the bad stuff can be part of the fun. But if transformer and diffusion models are substantially involved, I won't watch. I'll root for it to fail from the sidelines

Microsoft Excel World Championship qualifiers begin at noon eastern. In increasing order of importance: (a) wish me luck (b) wish the power grid luck, standing up to the nor'easter (c) fuck microsoft (d) free palestine

I think I did ok but not great. I would not be surprised if I qualified but I would also not be surprised if I didn't

I'm always annoyed when an excel esports case expects me to do something programmatic with cell formatting because excel formatting is lies

you can format yourself as "9/26/26 1:08 PM" all you want but I know what you really are. You are 46291.547650463. You can't hide your true nature from me

I talked about this a little on stream last night but BDS's targeted boycott of Microsoft is, as I understand it, focused primarily on xbox and gaming, secondarily on copilot. For other products they call for people to seek alternatives "when possible."

There's no viable alternative to Excel for this competition, which is not operated by microsoft, but I still feel it's important to say fuck microsoft. Arguably I could just not compete, but, well, this is where I've landed for now.

might be more like 715, we shall see.

It's already time for the Microsoft Excel World Championship qualification round this Saturday! I thought it might be fun to stream while I practice and prep, so I'll be doing that on Friday evening, 7pm Eastern

I'm still on that duolingo grind and one of the most useful sentences I've learned recently is "このカラフルの部屋にカメレオンは何匹ですか". great for when you're in a colorful room and you're not sure how many chameleons are in the room with you

Firstly, I think more and more people are gonna find their own ways to watch this content without ads. But I also predict that corporations will notice this trend and the respond harshly to it. So, uh, if you're one of those ad-free viewers, just make sure you're braced for that

Disney+ has altered its user agreement to clarify that ads will be allowed on all subscription tiers. https://bit.ly/4hhOjBo

I didn't realize that the new carly was a double album until I listened to it. didn't even look at the track list. blessings abound
