Firefox 159 has landed! This is a pretty big one for web dev stuff:
🎉 CSS scroll-driven animations, both scroll() and view().
🎉 Scoped custom element registries.
🎉 Streaming sanitization of HTML.
And more! developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/M...
I hope you're interested in what I can only describe as esoteric table rubbish that is tinged with legacy web development and which you likely don't need to know anything about, because that is what I'm serving up in my latest article. Enjoy?

Safari 27.2 introduces #css. The ::field-content pseudo-element gives you the ability to style the text of the selected option that’s displayed on the page, without needing the <selectedcontent> element.
If you needed a win as badly as I have lately, mark this one down: CSS-Tricks is returning as an independent publication.
Spread the word.

CSS-Tricks has a new owner!
Yes, I've got the keys to the castle, so to speak. And, even after 12 years of working on the site, I'll admit I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous about that.

Not every website needs an application stack. For content-focused sites, I still prefer the speed, simplicity, and control of static pages. Modern does not have to mean complicated.

Before writing form validation and input behaviour from scratch, see what HTML already offers. Native controls cover more useful functionality than many developers realise.

I wish I'd realized when recording this that it would come out on the 10-year anniversary of my channel, but even if I didn't mention it, I guess it's still pretty fitting 😅
(plus it was posted to my second channel anyway, lol)
I looked into the company, and it's real. This is literally the service they sell.
I'm on the fence between telling them how much of an invasion of privacy this is, or just marking spam. They won't listen anyway.
The more I think of it, the more I feel like calling out the business in a video....
I love how people now apparently think it's totally cool to make an AI clone of you without your consent.
This is the subject line of an email I got, and they put up an unlisted YouTube video with me, cloned, to me show how great it is.
It’s been a long process but now, masonry layouts have an actual CSS approach, so Saleh Mubashar has put together a really useful guide on how it works, how we got here and what’s next.
Chrome 157 now supports icon-only mode for the <camera> and <microphone> elements, which hides the text label (but retains the accessible name)

#CSS Progress - The easiest way to do fluid type now by @kevinpowell.co
Exciting Video, Great explanation on the progress function and its use case. When I originally looked at this progress function, it didn’t click for me at first a few months ago.

a critical PHP vulnerability may take websites down today. Admins are preparing for emergency patches, with estimates suggesting that more than 1.3 million internet-connected hosts are likely affected www.theverge.com/tech/1015257...
✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027!
If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!
Things I hope to push forward at TPAC:
- Declarative fragment / client side include
- declarative skeleton/shell
- CSS navigation matching
- parser/patch reflection in mutation observers
- responsive image improvements
- connection allowlists
- focusreset
- CSS module imports
Gonna be interesting!
The `unload` event no longer fires in Chrome by default!
Since the advent of the mobile web this has become increasingly unreliable and we think that's a footgun for devs who might think it works.
We've spent the last 3 years carefully removing it from Chrome.

Anyone else who thinks that the at-private feature is unintuitive? github.com/w3c/csswg-dr...
Specifically that anything in `at-private {}` isn't scoped to that rule, but rather to a style rule ancestor of that rule.
Yesterday, the CSSWG accepted my proposal for mesh gradients and diffusion curve gradients!
Want to make gradients like this natively in CSS? Well, we've started the work on it. It's coming!

✍️ New Article: Fit height to background pattern size with calc size()
I wrote about a use-case for calc-size() and round() that helped me avoid cut-off background patterns.
