New blog post! As the #CamelForth RetroChallenge project continues, I test it on real hardware and solve a long-standing bug. All building up to an exciting Halloween ending! www.leadedsolder.com/2026/10/27/c... #retrogaming #sega #forth #retrocomputing #retrochallenge

leadedsolder.comNo longer a theoretical CamelIn theory, theory and practice are the same thing. In practice, they’re not. That’s sort of the same problem with emulators – even the best ones are not always the same as real hardware. Although MAME...

Famicom in 1983: This isn't even my final form. Famicom in 1985: Just need the disk drive now! The Family BASIC Pack (1984) enabled the Famicom to live up its name and evolve into a home micro. Quite a few type-in and hobbyist games were released that took advantage of it. 📖: BEEP, March 1985.

How to Become a River Raider: Hints & Tips from one of the First Ladies of Video Games herself: Carol Shaw. You'll see her credited as the first female video games designer, but I feel it's fairer to call her the first (recognized) female console game designer employed within a company.

got the alice in wonderland pinball machine up and running today after the move; it had not been giving balls at the start of the game, turns out that was just because the balls had been jostled out of their compartment during the move, they all fell on the floor when I took the playfield out lol

Because eMudhra is in the news, I am sharing a screenie of a footer of an email I once received from them in reply to my query about my PAN card (a government-issue tax identity and card).

Super Mario Bros. 3 felt like pure magic as a kid, and to celebrate its 38th anniversary I made another dress in my gaming series! 🍄🥳 Initially released in Japan on October 23, 1988, Mario 3 subsequently arrived in North America on February 12, 1990!

I will say I wish it was optional on whether a link shows up as support, at least for itch.io; I know it is for some people but everything on mine should be free! I just want to show off stuff I made

A lost Rieko Kodama illustration of the original Phantasy Star cast is kind of a big deal, all we have are magazine photographs of the trade show demo ROM. I hope the real thing is sitting in an attic somewhere and surfaces!

VGDensetsu@vgdensetsu.bsky.social

By the way, it was Rieko Kodama who drew the Phantasy Star I illustration for the rolling demo, whilst Toru Yoshida drew the one for PSII (and presumably the characters from PSIV seen in this demo). You can read more about the game’s development here: vgdensetsu.net/riekokodama12/

Me, six months ago: This typewriter is nifty huh? I like typewriters. Isn't the mechanism interesting? Wife, now: So I bought two typewriters and I'm debating buying a third. Be careful introducing "new" technology to your nerdy partner with a collection habit.

(CW: flashing) Dian Shi Ma Li re-implementation in Fortran is at the point where you can now push start to rich. Now it's just missing an intro animation, sound effects, and the double-or-nothing bets with the cards (which will require me to rip them) code.novasquirrel.com/Maffi/DianSh... #gamedev

walking to work feels great; that's because in the ancestral environment homo habilis programmers had to walk to the office, since cars hadn't been invented yet

When setting up shelves for video games, it's the Neo Geo that's usually the limiting factor due to its height; even moreso than the Tower of Power (note: my Tower of Power is a Model 2)
