This is the latest build of my DOS game jam game. It’s currently 208kb, single executable, and that’s with a bunch of standard C libraries still linked in. Plays well, too IMHO :D

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Limp Bizkit for all of its stupidity is a pretty tight and extremely energetic group. SOAD was fantastic. Science by Incubus is a hell of an album and the first Powerman 5k is good stuff. I didn’t like Korn but they had a unique approach.

For #RandomGameSaturday I’ve got Strike Commander, a Chris Roberts game. This cinematic aerial dogfighting game predated Ace Combat by several years and was among the first texture mapped flight games. Maybe I will replay it. There’s a neat manual and I’ll append it to this post if I find it.

I really enjoyed this game. Out of this, Destruction Derby 64 and 2, and Carmageddon, this was my favorite. And it’s got Brujaría.

Demolition Racer: No Exit released 26 years ago! (10/24/00) This is an Arcade Racing-Game that encourages players to recklessly smash into each other to score. The game offers Demolition Races, Destruction Derbies, Versus Mode, and Color Customization, so you can crash in style!

Things that work well in home shmups, besides a hard limit on credits: 1. The player earns extra credits ala Mars Matrix DC 2. Smaller challenges: 1cc 2, 3 stages ala Darius Burst 3. Call “easy” mode “normal”, default to it, have hard for the experienced players (Terarin does something like it)

In a world where we’re drowning in “content”, you’ve gotta just find the people who care about what you care about. An awful lot of things that turn that creative spark on for me are considered long obsolete, yet I still find others who appreciate it at a deep level. Find your people.

#LogLoads64 (Reloaded) Park Patrol A favourite #C64 game of mine and 100% in my top 50 games on the computer. If you have never played this - you need to play it this weekend, if not today. It is just one of the best arcade games available. So many lovely details. So much fun. Nostalgia Overload.

If you have a special interest & know what it is, you are blessed. Many people go their whole lives without finding something that makes them truly happy & enthusiastic. #Autistic

This class, about my special interest, makes me happy. When I'm happy, I stim. I bounce in my seat & fidget & tap my feet. I become really visibly #autistic & cannot mask it. Some people stare, but I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm entitled to my happiness.

When you write a MIDI voice allocation routine for Adlib by hand, you get an appreciation for why the channel allocation in the FB-01 was so clunky. It’s far easier to dedicate a channel to a patch rather than smartly switching. Less bandwidth, too, and those had puny processors.

Isn’t subsidizing the cost of the console what console makers used to always do, via the licensing fees?
