Today is Intersex Awareness Day.

Please do read, sign and share widely.
I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

Finished this a little while ago, but wanted to wait for various other releases and announcements to pass before publishing it.
I was alone on the anniversary of my dad's death this year, and decided to make something cathartic. Please check the content warnings before reading!
I feel like all the Bioware retrospectives have not yet dwelt enough on what an absolute watershed Femshep was in terms of female playable protagonists
please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die
Every time I see the phrase "women and femmes" to mean "women and people who look like women," or worse, "women and AFAB people," I cringe.
Butch non-binary people make up a large percentage of the lesbian community. "Women and femmes" does not include them.
But also some trans guys are feminine! Same with cis gay guys! So what are we even doing here? What does "femme" mean in this context? Because it doesn't mean the lesbian butch/femme dynamic, it doesn't mean feminine, it just means "woman-esque."

People can't stand that there's no good, snappy, all-encompassing, tidy phrase that communicates "women and people who have had experiences that are connected to or aligned with womanhood in some way, unless you're a trans guy."
Very heavy news as our former studio, BioWare closes its doors today. It was a formative place for many.
However, many former BioWare devs are scattered around the industry. Find them, support them. Like, follow, comment and help us prove there is still support for the types of games we make!
BioWare closing rings the same hollow bell in my soul as WB and Paramount becoming “Skydance.” Across movies, TV, publishing, games, we’re watching decades of legacy and history being hijacked and fed to the furnace of an abyssal engine with no desire beyond the abstract concept of “More.”

The reception to Sister of Mercy in Hellraiser has been so wonderful. Making one of the villains trans was something I didn't take lightly, and I was worried about how she'd be received, but seeing trans women saying how much they love her means everything to me.
She was cis when I joined the project, but I sent an essay-length message to the otherwise-all-cis-guy narrative group chat arguing for why they should let me trans her gender, and I'm extremely grateful they trusted me with it.
Most of the plot and characters were nailed down by the time I arrived, so even though I wrote a lot of the cutscenes/key character conversations and SoM's scenes were a relatively small slice of my work, she was the only one that really felt like *my* character. That's my fucken daughter.

This is incredibly sad. I once interviewed RJ Mitte on the Southbank and he was very friendly and joyful on a sunny day by the river. He leaves a legacy of disability representation on the screen; something that is far from easy to achieve and still too rare. www.theguardian.com/culture/2026...
I've somehow worked on two games where all the writing gets credited (by the players) to a perceived auteur who didn't do any of the writing, and in one case, didn't work on the game at all and whose name isn't even in the credits. That's fine. This is fine.
Back in May, Double Fine employees petitioned for a union. Two weeks later, that petition was withdrawn. What happened? https://kotaku.com/inside-the-failed-fight-to-unionize-one-of-gamings-most-idealized-studios-2000742755
