Not really sure where a bunch of liberals got the idea that they can’t win without throwing trans people in the garbage, but they’re stupid and cruel and wrong. If you want a human sacrifice so damned bad put gavin newsom in the wicker man

The world’s largest battery-electric aircraft flew for the first time on the 12th of August, a 27-minute test flight over upstate New York that cost about five dollars in electricity. Heart Aerospace’s 30-seat prototype is a big step toward a commercial version. buff.ly/i3f0PhR #ShareGoodNewsToo

The conservatives aren't even bothering to explain anything. Other judges say maps are unconstitutionally racist, and they just shrug it away.

Breaking news: SCOTUS intervenes in Alabama redistricting case & says GOP *is* allowed to change Alabama map. Despite a lower-court finding evidence of intentional discrimination. Yet another SCOTUS gift to the GOP; eliminates seat of a Black member of Congress www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...

It's all awful but at least it's the eventual and inevitable end of that millimeter-deep climber.

David_j_roth@davidjroth.bsky.social

First day on the job and you want respect? Go right up to the most recognizable and respected guy in the newsroom and have him yell at you until you cry. Then it's time to send him a weepy email telling him how disappointed you were that he did all that. Shouldn't have any trouble after that.

I’m a broken record, but it’s facially insane that the SCOTUS’s position is that the interest of a political party—an entity with no special constitutional protection—in gerrymandering is more important than black people’s right to vote, which we have several constitutional amendments addressing

I've seen this everywhere today and I'm GLAD. This is the truth, the energy, and some white people need to be delivering the same speeches.

Sherrilyn Ifill@sifill.bsky.social

Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end. Speak your truth, fight and believe.

Well, that was necessary

Someone out there decided it would be a good idea to put a German Shepherd in charge of babysitting a bunch of Doberman puppies and they were 100% correct

Seriously blow this up. Scream it from the mountain tops. This is not policy, this is corruption.

Center for Climate Integrity@climateintegrity.org

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has taken roughly $5 million in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry over the course of his career. Now he’s pushing a federal bill that would shield Big Oil companies from any laws or lawsuits seeking to hold them accountable for fueling the climate crisis. 🙄

it’s simple. Dems need to 1. prepare retaliatory gerrymanders in every blue state now that the VRA has been overturned 2. pack the court (and prosecute Thomas/alito) in 2029 I will only even *consider* primary candidates who support both of the above going forward

Molly Wood reposted

The court has simply recreated the pre-Brown world in allowing racial discrimination across a broad number fields as long as it is “facially neutral,” gutting the Reconstruction Amendments in the process.

Also I hate how I like come to Threads to say something like, Honestly, if Klay "dumbass boat captain" Thompson can cheat on Megan Thee Stallion then yeah, they can actually all be lonelier. But then I'm immediately derailed by 17 ways that the world is ending, but 13 of them are totally made up.

But also if you take Pepcid and Allegra, all of that will just go away overnight. Never mind, I'm going back to the group chat.

It will never not be enraging that when interest rates were close to zero the US government did not invest in infrastructure and green energy bc the GOP was obsessed with austerity.

Yeesh. Among other takeaways: ... the NYT article notes, “not a single justice, conservative or liberal, mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider.”

Chris Nelder@chrisnelder.bsky.social

I can’t resist adding a few thoughts to the vigorous dialogue about the new NYT exposé on the SCOTUS decision www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u... that halted Obama’s Clean Power Plan. (long thread warning!) 1/

NEW—I got an exclusive excerpt from a USAID whistleblower's new book that made me gasp multiple times. It details Trump's dismantling of the humanitarian aid agency & his team/DOGE's shocking ignorance to public health. 'Into the Wood Chipper' by Nicholas Enrich is out tomorrow. Read excerpt here:

It is still blowing my mind honestly that the vice president of the United States of America went to Hungary to campaign for an authoritarian dictator who is despised by most of his country. But hellllllllll yeah. Ignore the vibes at your peril. www.bbc.com/news/live/c2...

This is a must read. In many cases, there's just no good reason for this infrastructure when electrification, demand-response, and actually even geothermal (as the article notes) can accomplish the same goals in a lot of places.

The main driver of gas-utility bills used to be the price of gas itself, but utility spending on gas infrastructure has more than tripled in the last decade—now making up the bulk of consumer costs.
