Something I really love is the way the movie constantly contrasts Nausicaä's emotional, naive, feminine-coded objections with the Hard Men Making Hard Decisions, and then repeatedly shows us that Nausicaä is the only person who has actually done the research to understand the logic of the world.

He's also ruined "grok," using it as he does for an LLM that fundamentally fails, on multiple levels, the entire concept of "grokking." But this is the Billionaire Way, naming shit for things in their favorite books in ways that the original authors would likely look on in horror

Love how the right-wing trolls who spent months crying that Nolan’s Odyssey would be "too woke" instantly pivoted to crying that he committed an "even bigger atrocity" by making it an apocalyptic nightmare instead. The whiplash is crazy.

Sorry if you wanted three hours of Odysseus doing epic alpha trickster shit, but Nolan was always going to look at the Late Bronze Age collapse and think "yeah, this is my aesthetic." It’s literally the Oppenheimer anti-war playbook applied to Homer.

It’s a 2,700-year-old poem, you can’t "ruin the lore." Turning Ithaca into a bleak, radioactive-feeling wasteland while Ludwig Göransson's score blows out your eardrums is exactly what we signed up for. Let the man be depressed in peace.

They went from throwing tantrums about the casting to writing actual essays about how framing the Trojan Horse as a horrific, civilization-ending war crime is "disrespectful to the classics." Absolutely unserious people.

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

Over the last month I saw that human editors are now stripped of control. I could no longer stop the system from auto-inviting "reviewers" with zero relevant expertise. Even worse - the AI began actively revoking the invitations I manually sent out to actual, qualified experts.

In spot tests I've done, I see this happen *all of the time*, such as with my own papers. The LLM would often rather hallucinate a male scientist than get my name right. 🤷‍♀️ It's kind of unsurprising that models trained unscrupulously on the entire internet are misogynistic

Mel Andrews@bayesianboy.bsky.social

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

In general relativity, a point mass just sitting there is inevitably a black hole. But that's when you're living in 3d space (and one dimension of time). In 2d space, a point mass creates a less drastic singularity: a 'cone point'. I've been studying these cone points lately, just for fun. (1/n)

I've had so many conversations with non-technical friends & family who are completely duped by headlines like this. I also think it's sad to not tell the public about the huge range of AI/ML research. It would be so cool if the public knew how many cool new methods exist, LLMs are just the surface

Emily Hunt@emily.space

I am SO sick of headlines like this. The public sees "AI" as being LLMs/ChatGPT, not an ML algorithm - and articles like this mislead the public into thinking that LLMs are discovering novel things. It's a cool thing! I'm excited! But it is lazy reporting to suddenly use "AI" as such a broad term
