"culturally European with no significant history of oppression in their past" is an incredible claim to make about the Boers
"But South Africa" I'm going to stop you right there. Afrikaner South Africans were a minority in their own country. Without support from Europe and the West they were doomed, as Rhodesia conclusively proved. And they were culturally European with no significant history of oppression in their past.

An aide drops a copy of Pape on POTUS' chair on AF1: This is great, let's bomb to win. An aide hooks the audiobook up to POTUS headphones for a couple of hours: Oh shit bombing to win is bad. No strikes. POTUS sees Pape on tv criticizing him: Fuck this guy, we're bombing to win. Strikes on.

The Times copy-pasting an article? Surely not The Times who so excoriated academic plagiarism
As honoured as I am to see that The Times has picked up my Chagos article practically *word for word*, including my hard-gotten quotes, I’d prefer some credit — or for everyone to read my original FT piece! free link to read the evidently enviable article below (cheaper than a Times sub!) 🌴
