I know Kevin Cash wanted the platoon advantage, but knowing all the traveling Nick Fortes had to do to see his wife and newborn, don't you think it would've been smart to start Liam Hicks instead?

Love that the booth went to rules analyst Andy Fletcher just as the umpires were annoucing the call was overturned, and Fletcher talked over the annoucement. Great broadcasting

MLB TV + Apple TV+ + YTTV sports only package got me everything except games involving the Braves or Reds, but that’s as an out of market fan, it’s significantly more complicated in market

The worst thing about all of this is that sports leagues are making deals with multiple streamers. To be a baseball fan and ensure that we can watch our favorite team on a given night, on top of cable packages and/or MLB TV, we also need to pay for no fewer than 3 of these services.

And now Grupe is hurt and doubtful to return after making the tackle on that kickoff — because his teammates couldn’t do it themselves.

Blake Grupe made his 44-yard FG, but the kickoff coverage unit is still terrible

My piece from tonight is finally up: The Brewers had no shortage of heroes in this series but I was blown away by William Contreras' performance on both ends of the ball. I wrote about the man who bridged the gap from Yelich to Chourio, as his time in Milwaukee is (perhaps) nearing an end

Well that's it for baseball west of the Mississippi this year. It was a privilege to witness and write about this. I'll see you when we get back to the Good Time Zones

Garrett Mitchell debuted in 2022. He had two career home runs against a left-handed pitcher until taking Alex Vesia deep for the go-ahead run in a playoff game.

I was just thinking that the Brewers' fast guys ought to be running on Glasnow every time the base in front of them is open. Frelick steals second and scores on a David Hamilton single, and all of a sudden the Dodgers have just about spent that Ohtani homer voucher

The Brewers have yet to allow a home run or a SB in the NLCS Just one team has gone an entire best-of-7 postseason series without allowing a home run or SB: 1927 WS Yankees vs PIT

So is that Polymarket commercial telling us the Congressional staffer wagered on the incumbent's reelection chances before she went public with the allegations that he was having an affair with another staffer — thereby using insider knowledge to get rich? They're saying the quiet part out loud

The best part about Brooklyn is you can go to the local bar at 6 pm on a Wednesday for dinner and they'll have McCABE & MRS. MILLER on the TV with no sound and closed captions

Good news: this part is almost over! Winter subscriptions to Words About Birds will remain open until tomorrow for $31.40, and that carries you through March 15. Lots of fun stuff planned (including maybe from Milwaukee…) and I hope you give it a shot:

The Cardinals will not have many difficult decisions to make at Rule 5 protection time, whether or not this winter's draft actually happens. They have two players who will definitely be added, five who will likely be added, and a bunch more to consider: words-about-birds.beehiiv.com/p/parsing-th...
