The fact Gibney is promoting this conspiracy theory shows why he is not often trusted as a documentary filmmaker!!!

There's apparently a conspiracy theory that the Musk doc is being buried by its new owner (a guy who has done anti-Musk work & financially backs ProPublica) since it got removed from a bunch of theaters but I think the more obvious answer is that it expanded too much and no one went.

On the surface this is logical, but actually the reason Los Angeles theaters move on quickly is because competition for theater space is way fiercer in Los Angeles. Tons of indie films in LA basically last one week and claw if they want a second or third. Especially in Oscar season.

every time i learn about a new "game changing" ai video that declares hollywood is dead it takes about 15 seconds to learn the opposite

there's probably a whole theory of why ai creators refuse to understand continuity at all. like the software *is* better at it now, though it takes a lot of work (taking output, creating 3D rendered objects, then reorienting). but most seem totally uninterested in that

If you're an indie theaters and are going to play one 3+ hour long doc, you're probably gonna do the one that estimated $18,000 per theater (maybe 1,500 people?) last weekend vs the one that averaged $660 (maybe 50-60 people).

People say they’re immune to propaganda and then just ignore the most anti-Irish movie ever made being released at the height of The Troubles. Wake up sheeple!!!!

I feel like this should be a much bigger story than is being reported. The shareholders of Facebook, a giant company with a trillion dollar cap, would rather cover any spread of their CEO's taxes if Prop 40 passes than see him leave the state.

reuters.comMeta strikes deal to keep Zuckerberg in California after wealth tax concernsMeta Platforms has struck a deal with Mark Zuckerberg to keep him living in California after the CEO warned he was considering leaving the state that houses the company's headquarters ‌if voters pass...

This sets a precedent for pretty much every other company with CEOs contemplating to leave to do this, which means the number of any billionaires leaving CA would be in the handful rather than dozens. I think Prop 40 makes some odd choices, but this defangs one of the central arguments against.

the “estranged family member doesn’t like the candidate” has been a genre for a while, especially since Trump, but usually you don’t have a “candidate’s reason for being estranged is more compelling than the other way.” Idk if they hoped point a would be the only thing that mattered.

A previous generation of professional ratfuckers might not have balked at this on *moral* grounds, but they’d at least have recognized that normal people would find it repugnant. The current crop are so divorced from humanity they’ve lost even the ability to imagine how decent people think.

One theory I have about a Film/TV Production Head that I would argue applies basically since 2010 or so is your job is mostly a balance between "Talent Management" and "IP Management" and not much else. Netflix isn't really heavy on on IP, which means it's almost a lot of Talent Management. Anyways,

How It Started // How It's Going

I don't even think it's that these people hate Vance or anything. Most of them "don't care" about politics and so unless it's Trump (the TV show guy) they absolutely could not care about any politician. And if you're JD, that means you're screwed once Trump is out of the picture.

TRUMP: We gave nothing in exchange for Stephen. We never give anything in exchange for hostages. TRUMP LITERALLY MOMENTS LATER: If I implemented sanctions on Russia, Steven wouldn't be coming out right now.

So many types of projects—films, books, TV, video games—attempted to ape Star Wars for decades, and I truly believe the Mass Effect Trilogy was the only one that ever design and shape a meaningful universe. It sucks to see this studio shuttered.

THE EMPTY MAN (Prior, 2020): Both oddly familiar and yet continually not. Hypnotically strange, phenomenal production design / feel. A tiny budget ($16 mil) that feels closer to triple that. No wonder the studio had no idea what to do with this. I'm not sure I do either, but I'm compelled.

I realize the Fox head was fired before its release, but I do think there must be something in the air over at the Fox/Hulu side in terms of producing mid budget horror in the last decade (First Omen, Send Help, Ready or Not)
