Robert Gasser was the first player I talked to at media day, and I asked him about controlling the running game now that they were playing a team with any players who aren't old as hell, and he gave me a nothing answer. Apparently the plan was "let them run and wait for them to overslide the bag"

Notes from Rays player intros: 1) South Jersey icon Caden Bodine's up to hang out with the big club 2) Big pop from the crowd for pitching coach Kyle Snyder. Rays fans know how important he is. If you don't, but would like to learn, read here:

There's been increased attention on whether MLB will implement check-swing challenges in the future, following a few close calls this World Series. During spring training, Eric Longenhagen reported on several rule changes being tested in the minor leagues, including a Check-Swing Challenge system:

I meant to mention this earlier but I was too busy sweating my ass off: Milwaukee fans have conquered Ferg's. I could hear "Let's Go Brewers!" chants from across the street as I was walking to the park

ICYMI, I wrote about how the Rays and Brewers coach up replacement-level big leaguers into All-Stars. It's an almost jarringly wholesome and earnest process

I'm getting progressively less sleep every time I fly this postseason. I did not go to bed at all last night. Your FanGraphs membership goes toward subjecting me to sleep deprivation such as is outlawed by the Convention Against Torture in the 2027 postseason

The MVP of Game 1 of the World Series was FanSided insider Robert Murray, who at first pitch produced a two-pound bag of sausages from his backpack to share with our row of the press box. But the Brewers had some good players too. My recap from business as usual in Milwaukee
