My first experiment with 3d camera tracking in Lightwave! It's very slow to build, but even at low quality settings the results are clean. (And you only build once). I then added the floating head of Yuri Gagarin. (And the base picks up reflections!)

“You maniacs! You blew it up!” More than half a century after Planet of the Apes, that final scene still has the power to shock. Flood Waters Down - a near-future #climate & #AI thriller. Different apocalypse. Same uncomfortable question: did we see it coming and carry on anyway? #Booksky #film

Often described as a prophet or a visionary or a serious writer. Possibly the best novelist this country has produced, though his writing owes a lot to his formative years in Singapore. Great book covers!

J.G. Ballard's dystopian worlds fascinated me as a teenager. Decades later, they seem disturbingly close to reality. How his writing influenced my own novel #FloodWatersDown – and why Ballard still matters. #JGBallard #DystopianFiction #ClimateFiction #Booksky simcomm.blogspot.com/2026/10/why-...

Thrilled to have an article in this issue!

What happens when humanity moves from visiting space to living and working there? Our new issue explores reproduction beyond Earth, the future space workforce, commercial stations, Artemis, space economics, governance – and whether humans are really ready to stay. Print and digital - out now.

I'm back from an interesting few days at #IAC2026 in Antalya, Turkiye, representing ROOM Space Journal. Always a good space event & met a lot of interesting people, including Ameca - a humanoid robot who could hold a decent conversation in multiple languages. Scary, piercing eyes though!

A major problem I have with every film/TV/comics adaptation of Dune is that none of them look much like Bruce Pennington’s classic 1970s paperback covers of Frank Herbert’s novels. Pennington’s were the only visual take on Dune I came across in my early & impressionable teens. They’re my head canon.

This is superb! Saturn is such a mysterious planet.

#Spacetober day 19: Saturn In this artwork we find ourselves floating within the ring system of the gas giant, Saturn. The ring particles are made almost entirely of water ice - which is why they are so bright - and range in size from about a centimetre to a few metres across. #SciArt #blender

To get my blacks like in this piece (it is still available), I use layers of indigo, Prussian blue & Egyptian Violet. Not only does it avoid mud, the layers give a real feeling of depth to something that could easily feel very flat.

As expected, the Prime Minister's promise to sort out the mess of funding for Jodrell actually meant nothing - it seems the government would like it to be some sort of heritage theme park when you can go and see where we used to do science. 🔭
