i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

We should study data-center heat, but we can also use it. In Finland, waste heat from data centers is captured and fed into district-heating systems to warm homes and businesses. One major project is expected to supply about 40% of local heating demand. Instead of dumping the heat, use it.

41C in the UK? In 2015 the IPCC warned world leaders not to breach 1.5C as it would unleash “frequent & severe droughts, heatwaves & rainfall.” We’re now on track for 2C in years, 3C in decades & 4C in our children’s lifetimes. The most spectacular failure of leadership in history.

1/ You might assume that investigative journalists are cynics. In reality, we’re optimists. We immerse ourselves in the details of harm and abuses of power because we believe that once people know the truth, they will demand better. And they do.

Responding to a question about credit card delinquency with "well, the credit card company CEOs are fine with that" is... honestly a perfect distillation of this administration's economic policy.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BREAM: The Journal says percentage of delinquent credit card balances is 13%, the highest in 15 years. People are using them for necessities. Your message to them? HASSETT: We talk to CEOs of the credit card companies all the time, and there's not any threat to them. People are taking a bit longer.

I'm working on a column about the tech annoyances that drive us crazy, and I want it to be as universal as possible, so tell me yours! E.g. scanning a QR code to read a menu, never receiving the one-time passcode they supposedly texted you, "verify you're human" by IDing tiny motorcycles, etc.

Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end. Speak your truth, fight and believe.

Local politics matter, but there are so many racist & classist assholes in northern Indiana that I dropped off of Nextdoor, and I filed a police report about an alleged KKK member threatening me for stating I was reporting (to FB moderators) his demand that folks take up guns against immigrants.

I would love an ability to better filter Bluesky geographically at the county or at least state level to make organizing with people who don’t want to shoot their neighbors possible.
