I was foolishly invited to a swanky business awards dinner Tuesday night where I mingled with the Great and the Good and found myself chatting with a proud Trump voter. Look at me, all patient and understanding of the other side! Here’s a little thread of my adventure in reasoning 👇🏼

Another fun fact: Olivia Chow now has the record for the MOST VOTES (2026) earned by a winning Mayoral candidates in Toronto megacity history, and the LEAST VOTES (2023) earned by a winning candidate.

Joshua Hind@joshuahind.bsky.social

Fun fact: yesterday's preliminary voter turn out rate was the 3rd highest in the megacity era, trailing behind 2014 and 2010, and narrowly ahead of the first megacity election in 1998.

So hard to pick a favorite part of this article. Pretending that sending unsolicited dick pics at 53 was a “youthful indiscretion” is good, but don’t sleep on the argument that his wife forgave him for subjecting other women to unwanted nude photos so everyone else should too

I don't write fast & it's a challenge to respond to late-results in time for a print deadline (old school!) & (hopefully) have some value vs hot take. Anyway, here's mine w @thekeenanwire.bsky.social & @balkissoon.bsky.social. This victory gives Chow a ton of political capital. Time to spend it.

thestar.comChow vs. Bradford wasn't even close: Our columnists react to Toronto's election resultsThree Star commentators share their takes on Chow's victory — and what it means for the city.

it’s forever this 👇🏼

the actual reason is that the media likes Trump and wants to help him. They didn't like Hillary and they didn't like Biden and wanted to hurt them. That explains why Hillary's emails was covered as a nuclear-level scandal and "Trump is a violent rapist who is best friends with Jeff Epstein" isn't

“Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives.” ~ The Amazing Criswell, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1958) Great thread 👇🏼

Prediction is hard. Especially about the future. That Yogi Berra gem proves that you don't have to be a sf writer to get irritated with people insisting that you must know what's going to happen tomorrow, but (as a sf writer), I can tell you that this is one of our main occupational hazards.

I smelled a rat last week when suddenly all the polls were showing Bradford in the lead but even the conservatives I was talking with were all “that guy? yeah, no thanks” 🤷‍♂️

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

The citizen who yelled "Shove that ballroom up your fat ass" is, in this hard time, a patriot. Honestly, what is left to say about this level of misrule? What careful critique hasn't been already offered? What reasoned response to this full-on run at fascism and kleptocracy remained unspoken?
