Update: Our dude has activated Jeff, who believes you will go to prison if you do not, at minimum, pay your taxes. OP’s counter: “They can’t actually do that. Think about it! Who do you know who’s gone to jail for tax evasion?” Fanduel is right now setting odds on Jeff exploding

In "it's amazing what you find on Nextdoor" news, a poster there would like us all to know these things are optional: -Having a social security number -Having identification -Paying taxes It will be fine! They can't do anything to you! It's voluntary! They just don't want anyone to know that.

I accidentally deleted my first Yuletide request and didn't notice until signups had gone out (HOW???), and I am heartbroken, because I just got the BEST new piece of Magic/Bird lore and I am dyyyyyyyyyying

This is delightful and gorgeous, as so many things born out of spite are. I would legit hang this on my wall.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

This is the thread for all those who wanted my proposition and judge opinions!

We don’t have the same judge races, but we should have the same State Supreme Court and Court of Appeals justices on our ballots. Those are retention votes and I recommend all yes. No one has done anything bad enough to need replacing afaik.

Gregory Powell and Mike Donovan from I, Robot by Asimov, although I didn’t recognize the source of the fascination until years later.

Your 9-1-1 Detective name is your last DnD class or race and your favorite color green. I’m Druid Olive, which makes me sound like your friendly neighborhood childcare-providing dryad

Me: Nessie has yet to learn that she’s supposed to run when I come at her with zombie arms. The earthling, pointing to Nessie: These colors don’t run from hugs. (Technically zombie arms is a chase game that ends in a hug. Nessie simply does not acknowledge the chase part.)

People who make a lot of casseroles (I’m a good cook but casseroles aren’t really part of my food background): are the recipes just a base and you roll your own spices? Most of these just have salt and pepper and, like, I can fix that! But it’s weird not to at least say “add spices to your taste.”

Years ago, our neighbors purchased a half-dead plant because it was cheap and they felt sorry for it. It thrived in their front yard with minimal attention and is now a sturdy tree. A pomegranate tree. They don’t like pomegranates. What I’m saying is we just got a grocery bag full of pomegranates.

BB bravely extracted the seeds and now we have all the pomegranate seeds in the world. I’m considering juicing some of them if I can figure out how. Or freezing them. This is a critical level of pomegranate seeds.

These charts are always solely for white, cis, straight, able-bodied people. I’m sure Buffalo is great! If you don’t have physical or mental issues that are worsened by cold and the dark. I’m sure Charlotte is great! If your legislature isn’t trying to keep you from voting or using public bathrooms.

Sacramento is, by these metrics, the best value and some of the highest quality of life anywhere in the west. California incomes and sunshine with Portland’s prices and Denver’s access to nature is I guess a ranking-friendly combo?

The truth is that a lot of us make decisions about where to live by where we’ll be at least reasonably safe. “Quality of life,” as measured by charts like these, only takes into account the quality of certain kinds of lives.

My wife and I: for sanity reasons trying to limit our knowledge of the political situation to just what we need to know Our daughter and all her friends: fully obsessed with the election, texting each other constantly about races in other states, non-stop gaming it out This feels backwards

If you follow me, please be aware that: 1. If you mention a book, I am going to ask you for the title. I simply cannot resist and tbh I’m not trying to 2. If you post a pic of a person and put their name in the alt text, I will look at the pic for extra time for the sheer joy of knowing who it is

The dentist’s front desk employees are discussing a patient who at her last dentist was quoted $170 and then charged $1,400. “She’s really anxious about costs now. I wish they’d do something about these scammer dentists.” Scammer dentists are a new concept for me.

Sitting in the dentist’s lobby with a sun headache and they’re playing Music For Tormenting People. It should be illegal to subject people to Frankie Valli without their consent. (Sorry if you like him, but for serious he is not for people with headaches.)

Realized this morning that I’ve been refusing to read an author for years not because I dislike her work but because I’ve been conflating her with an entirely different author who is not for me

"This was brand new sidewalk and now it's disgusting. Would you eat at a restaurant if their floors looked like this?" (Accompanied by a picture of a person walking while eating a wrap.) No, I wouldn't, Nextdoor neighbor, but you see, it's a sidewalk.
