Well-meaning people can make poor decisions. Sometimes the problem isn't a lack of expertise or bad intentions. Instead, it's hidden assumptions, competing priorities, and/or a lack of clarity. Our new MEAP, The Architecture of Reasoning, sets up a system for making your thinking visible.

#P99CONF is going strong! Last day is tomorrow — don't miss out!

ScyllaDB@scylladb.com

We kick off Day 1 of #P99CONF with Keynotes from @gunnarmorling.dev, @avikivity.bsky.social, @carllerche.com, and @fasterthanlime.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy, as well as 18 other technical sessions. Registration is free, and you get every session on demand. www.p99conf.io?latest_sfdc_... #ScyllaDB

Two engineers can look at a problem, agree on the requirements, & still disagree on the solution. Making good technical decisions isn't just about knowing your options. It's about weighing tradeoffs, challenging assumptions, & getting people aligned. Decision Engineering explores how to do that.

"Is it good?" sounds like a simple question. But good at what? For who? Under what conditions? And what happens when it gets things wrong? Our new MEAP, Evaluating AI Systems teaches you how to ask the right questions so you can trust the answers. Half off through Oct. 20th: hubs.la/Q04zQDjh0

Marketing said they wanted a promotional video showing the book "in the wild". I'm assuming the Puget Sound shellfish research laboratory's beach counts as "in the wild".

The interesting part of an AI agent might not be the model that powers it. It might be everything around the model that lets it learn from what happens in the real world. Self-Improving Agents by @cxbxmxcx.bsky.social explores how to engineer that adaptive layer.

Your code compiles. The tests pass. The linter is happy. And it can still be wrong in ways that matter most. Memory Safe C++ digs into the kinds of memory-safety problems that hide behind those green checks, especially in safety-critical software. Half off through Oct. 7th: hubs.la/Q04zf2bK0

Lots of great Manning books being featured ↓ P.S. #P99CONF is awesome. You should go.

ScyllaDB@scylladb.com

To get you ready for our free & virtual #P99CONF, we're sharing book previews from @chiphuyen.bsky.social, @lemire.bsky.social, ‪@dominiktornow.bsky.social, @sarna.dev, @cynthiadunlop.bsky.social, @sgkaram.bsky.social, @penberg.org, and @boingram.bsky.social. p99conf.io/2026/10/01/p... #ScyllaDB

Using AI to do more doesn't have to mean spending your whole day managing AI. Claude at Work by @eltonstoneman.bsky.social digs into using Claude Code and Claude Cowork across the software lifecycle. This way, you can keep humans focused on the things that still need human judgment.

There's rarely a perfect answer in software architecture. You make a choice, live with the tradeoffs, learn something, and eventually have to make another choice. Software Architecture Decision-Making is a new MEAP about navigating those decisions with a little more intention.

Interesting thread if you want a peek into how things work "behind the scenes" here at Manning ↓

One thing that seems interesting - have you got cases where you flipped the whole book idea? Currently, you publish the table of contents and deliver chapters on a set schedule. I'm wondering about situations where the whole book was restructured, or even pivoted, ending up as a different title.

There's a certain kind of satisfaction in realizing something that looked way too complicated is actually something you can play with. Grokking Parallel Programming starts small, builds up to CUDA, & lets you practice in the browser without a GPU. Half off through tomorrow: hubs.la/Q04y8Cm50

Another great Manning author: @denodell.bsky.social. His book, Fast by Default, is all about being proactive and working with performance in mind from the get-go. That way, you have more time to build the stuff your users will love. The book: hubs.la/Q04y54-p0

@denodell.bsky.social, the trickiest part of “fast web apps” is the understandable misconception among non-tech-savvy users that there are things we, as developers, simply cannot control. realpython.com/podcasts/rpp... CC @digiglean.bsky.social @realpython.com

Ever wonder how a recommendation system decides what to put in front of you? There's a lot more going on than "you liked X, so here's Y." Data, ranking, cold starts, evaluation, and now LLMs, RAG, and agents all play a role. AI Recommender Systems teaches you the ins and outs: hubs.la/Q04xQnv20

There's a difference between knowing what state you want your software in and deciding when a build is ready to get there. That's what Kargo handles: promoting software through environments alongside Argo CD. Kargo in Action is our new MEAP, written by the @akuity.io engineers who built Kargo.

Your promotion process may be scattered across CI jobs, scripts, PRs, and manual approvals. 🙋 See how Kargo brings promotion, verification, governance, and audit history into one control plane: buff.ly/6cHY7DZ #Kargo #GitOps

At this the point, people independently discover the same problems when they build agents. It might be time to start naming those patterns. Because shared language makes it easier for people to learn from each other. Agent Design Patterns starts that conversation. Learn more: hubs.la/Q04xbQ_20

It's painful knowing your ML code works but not knowing why it's slow. You can stay at the PyTorch level. But, eventually, you may need to understand what the GPU is doing. That's where Triton comes in. GPU Programming with Triton takes you from GPU kernel fundamentals to modern LLM techniques.

LLMs are impressive. But, there are tradeoffs. If you need precision, consistency, or domain expertise, being impressive may not be important. When your priorities are the former, Building Specialized AI Systems can teach you how to adapt pretrained language models. Get it here: hubs.la/Q04t6-Cg0

People get upset that we're not able to do things that big publishers do. Like print all of our books in color. Then, occasionally, we get keyboard warriors that fight for us instead of against us. Being a small publisher is hard sometimes. Other times, it's pretty great.
