One of the most important financial stories out there if you want to know how and why the same five evil guys wind up owning everything.

This is why "prediction markets" caught on so ferociously. While prediction markets are sold as a way to "inject information" into markets, they are *actually* a rigged system, transferring money from "investors" to insiders: pluralistic.net/2026/03/24/d...

Prediction is a weak and helpless activity, the obsession of people who don't think they can change anything. It's the superstitious dread that gives rise to astrology. Far better to be a Luddite who asserts that there is more than one way to introduce a technology to a society.

via @stathead.com, throughout 122 years of world series history there have been two games in which a team scored 10+ runs and allowed 3 or fewer hits. both were the brewers (tonight and 1982 game 1)

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States. "In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct." Report w/ new details: democrats-judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-su...

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

I love that the illusion of stabie input/control is being taught for a non-deterministic process.

"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

Just looked it up, and Walter was born in Chicago. We need to figure out what neighborhood.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I don't want to depend on Chinese AI. I don't want to depend on Chinese AI or American AI. I don't want to use, or depend on Chinese or American AI. I don't want to consume, use, or depend on anything produced by Chinese or American AI.

And on AI: “I don’t want to depend on Chinese nor American AI. I want to create a Brazilian intelligence.” He also mentioned having Brazilian data centres dealing with our intelligence. “We will no longer be a peripheral country. We want to be central.”

What Ardmore/Sheridan, just W. of the N. end of LFT, might look like if we ran things. This would prevent crashes/deaths, make turns less dangerous for drivers, keep bikes/e-scooters off sidewalks, and improve lake access. Background: chi.streetsblog.org/2026/08/03/i... @the48thward.bsky.social

Does feel more apocalyptic these days, and there's definitely a greater fear of airplanes falling on us.

Richard Kelly’s sci-fi mindbender “Donnie Darko” makes one yearn for a time when a movie could make a virtue of confounding its audience. It was released on this day in 2001. buff.ly/iqCTMok

There was this time Cleveland did a balloon release event and the tv news portentously declared "the Mistake on the Lake no more!" and then when the wind turned unexpectedly, the balloonfall became a disaster and the airport shut down and there were fatalities. Anyway this event has now been outdone
