The banality of media evil

Iain Overton@iainoverton.bsky.social

The Telegraph has deleted, without fanfare, the word ‘living’ from the headline of Stephen Daisley's article on Professor Arday. Today, it just reads “Jason Arday is proof that you reap what you sow.”

@hugorifkind.bsky.social Me again. At risk of being a bore I hope some journalists at the Times have some editorial leverage. There’s a noticeable lurch to the right and populism.

Cllr Dr David Nicholl@drdavidnicholl.bsky.social

Dear @thetimes.com consider yourself CANCELLED by this loyal subscriber for many years over your appalling coverage over #JasonArday This 👇is shameful

Top Financial Tip ( for U.K. ): If you haven’t logged on to your HMRC online account for a while then I recommend you do so now! There was a substantial unclaimed tax rebate waiting for me there when I did this recently. This is not a scam!

Friendly guide to how the UK hard right view the political spectrum: Themselves - centrists Centrists = leftists Liberals = leftists Centre-left = leftists Socialists = leftists Far-left = leftists Marxists who hate the U.K. = Seems like a decent fellow.

Save yourself £12. It’s terrible.

I’ve signed up to The Spectator on a cheap deal as an experiment. These are the three most prominent articles on their website this evening. I fear that much of conservative Right-wing politics has been radicalised by click bait journalism. Minds are being poisoned.

“You can’t fly the England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 flag anymore. If you do they’ll arrest you and throw you in prison!” CC Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson etc

Every major party should just refuse to stand a candidate. Show this deflecting nonsense for what it is. Imagine the declaration with Farage and assorted oddballs in fancy dress! #farage #clacton

On Nigel Farage’s announcement that he will make a statement about his future in public life later today, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey said: “I hope it’s that you haven’t got one. “You’ve caused more than enough damage already."

Not my work but there’s truth in this. The BBC needs to stop giving equal weight to “all sides” where some sides are wrong and/deliberately false. They have good fact checkers: use them!

Some of us have been banging on about Farage and Cottrell for months and have been shouting into the void. Why? Well done to The Times for covering it now but their editor seems a little reluctant. I’d really like to know why? Cc @gabrielpogrund.bsky.social @hugorifkind.bsky.social

Why isn’t anyone commenting on Nigel Farage being paid £16k by convicted fraudster George Cottrell? Would any other politician get away with this massive error of judgement? #Farage #ReformUK

About 18 months too late but this should be applauded. Twitter is massively stacked against reasoned argument and veritable truth. It’s as good as dead.

Massie: "I think it's ironic that we control the House, Senate, Supreme Court, and the White House, and we're yelling 'election fraud'? I mean, we won all the damn elections."

It takes 1.28 seconds for a message to reach us from the Moon. It takes as little as 35 minutes from Jupiter. It takes as little as 4.5 hours from Pluto. It takes at least 6-12 months from NYT reporters, plus $35 for the book containing it.

I’m not a Labour supporter but I think that changing PM right now is the wrong move. History will look favourably on what he’s done. Two key priorities for his successor: 1/ Align with the EU. Our economy is being held back. 2/ Rapidly build rent-controlled homes in the UK. #starmer
