I have been praying for this kind of pushback from Democrats against Elon Musk for a long time now and I am thrilled that the Talarico camp is leaning into it. Light. Him. Up.

Team Talarico@teamtalaricohq.bsky.social

NEW AD: Have you seen these anti-Talarico attack ads? Elon Musk paid for nearly all of them. The world's first trillionaire knows if he drags the most corrupt politician in Texas across the finish line, Ken Paxton will owe him everything. Elon Musk: Texas is not for sale.

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

like, this isn’t even an “AI could create that much value” versus “no it can’t” argument - let’s grant the premise, let’s say it does in that world, with these people in charge, unemployment and poverty explode and no safety net is built to handle it

I was wanting to go back to peak button cockpit :(

e.w. niedermeyer@niedermeyer.online

yeah, I don't think anyone actually wants to go back to the Peak Button cockpit... but I think there's a really interesting question around where the line is here. How many buttons/knobs is the right number?

AI guys love to ask AI to summarize the movie Click, but the models run out of context after act 1

Jess Calarco@jessicacalarco.com

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

Anyone have good luck fine-tuning the jev-likes such as Clef? Feel like there's some workflows that don't have so many possibilities but do need a little world context small models don't come with. And I want Jev to see so bad.

Huh, on discord the trackball 🖲️ emoji looks just like Frieza

If this thing dies, i'll pump more money into the robot tomorrow morning :)

The horror stat remains true: The average American household is closer in net worth to Jeff Bezos than Jeff Bezos is to Elon Musk.

Elon Musk net worth is over $1 trillion again after SpaceX shares climbed ~8% on Mon. to close at $171.09. Morgan Stanley put out a note on Sun. calling SpaceX share "cheap" at today's prices, which helped stoke investor interest. www.cnbc.com/2026/10/05/s...

We need to rephrase the whole discussion in terms of hazardous products, instead of "minds". And then we need to make sure that there's liability. A model hacks someone? Put a C-suite guy in jail. A model produces sexual harassment material? Put a C-suite guy in jail. Watch how fast things get safe

New just now in The Atlantic: David Robinson resigned this week. He was among the longest-tenured employees at OpenAI—and oversaw safety reports on 12 frontier launches. He is very worried: “The time for trial and error is over.” You can read his essay here: www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

this is more important than niche internet arguments make it seem: if LLMs don't work, who cares that Palantir is rolling it out for surveillance? Hell, maybe it's even good, if the state's machines start hallucinating the addresses of random Trump supporters when dispatching ICE. But they do work.

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

I take exogenous hormones to change my sex. I inject estrogen every five days and take progesterone every day. Both are somewhat inconvenient. I check my levels every three months, and am attuned to dosage curve vs. mood. It is unreasonable for a cis man to think about hormones more than me.

Definitely click through on this story for the quotes from the Third Way spokesperson, who AGREED Democratic candidates should NOT adopt Republican language on trans issues. I was floored - even tried to get Billie to put it in the headline. This is not just analysis, these quotes are news.
