an important element in US vs Canada on this now out-and-out trade war is that Carney is confident his country is willing to bear the cost of resisting US demands.
US public isn't willing to bear any costs.

I was just checking on the meaning of this German phrase, but AI overviews thought I was saying "see ya!" and responded in kind. I actually like this kind of diffuse, free-floating personification ...
I think I figured out exactly how the “AI used a bottle of water per prompt” miscalculation happened - Andy Masley blog.andymasley.com/p/i-might-have…#AI#DataCenters#water
When I woke up this morning I didn't think I'd be spending a bunch of time today getting familiar with Catholic theology, but here we are. Notes on Pope Leo XIV's encyclical on AI. https://simonwillison.net/2026/May/25/encyclical-on-ai/

I wrote about the most ambitious form of AI-assisted software development I've seen yet - Strong DM's "Software Factory" approach, where two of the guiding principles are "Code must not be written by humans" and "Code must not be reviewed by humans" simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/7/s...
Spending more time with Claude Code tonight and I do think one basic reality is that AI skeptics need to update their priors: Plenty of cause for concern, plenty of room to hit these companies for unethical behavior, resource demands, etc, but we are so, so far past the era of "stochastic parrots"
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

What type of scientists are responsible for making sure nature is happy and fixing it when it hurts?
Conservation officer
Environmental scientist
Wildlife veterinarian
Who else?
As great powers abandon rules and values for their own interests, middle powers like Canada have a choice: compete with each other for favour or act together with impact.
Get Good at Agents
The tools are getting so powerful that we need to change how we scope, manage, and approach our work.
A.k.a. not getting them to work is a skill issue.

I think the Greenland threat is a troll. I think.
But it would sure be nice for some senators and GOP house members to speak up now and make it clear that an attack on a nato ally would lead to removal from office

My sense is that China is using this oldie but goodie @rockymountviews.bsky.social playbook to destroy global oil demand. With subsidized EV technology, China can help 50+ emerging markets destroy 3-4 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2030.

I'm not joking and this isn't funny. I have been trying to build distributed agent orchestrators at Google since last year. I was just starting to make progress with Claude Code when security asked me to leave because I “don’t work there” and “nobody knows who I am”

I planned to just write a brief overview, but yeah, it was an eventful year so it was impossible to keep it below 7000 words :D.

Jack Smith, in his opening statement to House Judiciary, says:
"Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and to prevent the lawful transfer of power."
👀 BlackRock just lost another ~$6B mandate after backsliding on addressing climate risk to its clients’ portfolios.
NYC pension trustees meet this week and could approve the @nyccomptroller.bsky.social recommendation to shift $42B for the same reason. 🍿
PME, a Dutch pension fund overseeing about $70 billion, has severed ties with BlackRock based on an assessment that the world’s largest money manager no longer acts in its best interests on issues such as climate risk.

Can't believe a product called Nano Banana is what is going to take plucky underdog Google Gemini to finally beat the incumbent ChatGPT.
Fast, precise image gen and editing is such a joy to use and surely mass market adoption is cranking.
More warranted to call a Code Red for that than Gemini 3.

Everyone is wagging their fingers at Disney for not being as tight-fisted and defensive as they expected. The thing is, y’all, Disney suspects a new market is emerging. That’s also why newspapers and music publishers are making deals. Possibly they’re all wrong.
In 2025, much of the financial sector backtracked on climate action — but one major pillar stepped up: public pensions that manage trillions in workers’ savings. 🫰
